Key assignment = message

Is there a way to assign a message to a certain key? It looks like drivers are doing that but I can't find out how.

options->game->F1 to F8
and
options->controls->CTR+ and ALT+

Ir i remember correctly Go to option -> game -> F1 - F8 you can set up as automated messages. Also you can set up ctrl F1 - f12 and Alt F1 - F12.
