Hi guys!
I started LFS yesterday and I got some doubts. I find the free version very good but the full version seems expencive( I am 14 years old and I dont think my father would buy me anything over internet).
The full version costs 24 pounds and i can get NFS:Carbon for that money.

So-is that game realy wort all that money or not?
Thx for your replies

You would be sick of NFS:C after maybe 1 month or 2.
I've been playing LFS since 2003. It just has that something that you keep coming back for.

LFS is like a puppy...for life not just for xmas. :)

Yes, it's worth it IMO.
LFS is not comparable to NFS in any way. LFS is a quality sim, NFS is a bling bling arcade racer you stop playing when you have reached the set goals. LFS has never bored me. The online racing makes it so much fun, LFSWorld is great, the community is great.

I've said it before many times, and I'll say it again, no other game EVER has given me so much value for money.

BTW you don't have to pay over the internet, you could also send an international money order through your bank.

LFS is by far the best game I ever bought. First experienced it back in September 2005. Bought a copy a month later and since then I've done 40,000 miles online and hours of hotlapping.

For the amount of fun per pound LFS is the best value game I have everr bought. Even better than Jetpac on the ZX Spectrum or Sonic on the megadrive.

I am a hardcore driving gamer though and am a total petrol head IRL. This has something to do with it but I even got bored of Gran Turismo faster than LFS.

Watch the movies here http://www.simtouringcarcup.com and you will see what top level LFS racing is all about.

Hi!

Thanks for fast replies! :)
I got another question:
I have a "not so good" computer. 256Mb RAM, 64Mb graphic card and 2,6 Gh procesor. When I saw movies you posted and their graphic are great. So do you think that with my computer I can still play the game good?
Thanks for your replies

LFS is great because it doesn't require a supercomputer to play it good. Your system will run fine. If the demo works fine then the full game will also work the same. Although those specs are on thw low side I think you should be fine unless there's a full grid.

if you can play the demo you can play the full game :thumb:

presumeably you have been on demo servers wit h15-20 people on the grids to start - does it run ok for you? if yes then you'll be fine to play the S2 version at the same graphics settings i beleive :D

That PC should be good enough to get you racing at about 20-30 frames per second(FPS: The amount of frames your graphics card produces in one second).

Most users on here boast higher 'FPS' with higher end PC's, but your PC specs are'nt better than mine, so, yes.

LFS is quite intensive on processor usage but not so much on graphics card and memory usage. You're processor will cope just fine.

I can run anything up to 150FPS on mine but I limit it to 30FPS anyway because the human eye can't see more than that anyway.

I've been playing on server with 5 players on and it worked good. It's just my graphic card that disapointed me :D.
Thx again!

Sweet use SHIFT-F9 to F12 For different resolutions I'm using a 2year old dell 3000 512Mem / 3.06Ghz chip with integrated graphics hitting a steady 40Fps normally on low res only slowing down to 20Fps in heavy traffic, high end graphics I'm not worried about at present only the quality of gameplay.

I will invest in new graphics card next though :D

From your specs I would expect you to run Simular frame rates to me.

Urban myth that man, perpetuated by the fact that movies/tv are only shown at 24fps, this is true, but they use blurring between the frames to give the effect of a smooth picture, in stuff like PC games, the human eye can detect changes all the way up to 100fps, 60 gives a good happy medium :thumb:

Really? My eyes must be bad then cos I can't see the difference. I'm not saying you're wrong - just saying :)

You must be getting old mate, either that or you need (new) glasses hehehe, I find the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps quite striking, but I guess different peoples eyes/brains see things differently.

It was an old chestnut that used to come up in flightsim forums all the time

I'll be wacking my FPS up to 60 tonight then. And yes, my eyes aren't that great unless I'm wearing my contacts. I don't bother for LFS though cos I tend not to blink enough

When you have a full grid and solid cars either side of you I don't think I've concentrated on anything so hard in my life..

yup there is a major difference between 30 and 60, and whenever it gets lower your controller might lag.

The difference FPS makes in terms of perception depends on the changes that take place between frames. If the frames are very similar with objects quite near their position in the previous frame; 30fps will look no different than 100fps. However; the difference is dreadfully obvious with fast moving objects. Therefore: with a higher FOV, the edges of the screen will look much worse at 30FPS than at 100FPS although the objects in the middle (where you focus) probably won't look much different. Clearly; the closer a moving object is to it's previous position in a subsequent frame, the "smoother" the animation will appear to occur - so more FPS is generally better. There is no magic number of "what the human eye can detect" because much of our vision & perception is based on motion.

Hi!
Thanks for all your help AGAIN :D.
Where can i see what my FPS is? Top left corner? Beacuse if in top ledt corner i see a number 7-8 all the time.
Thx for your replies

If you go to Options > Display you can have the FPS display where you like it.

If that 7-8 is your FPS then you have a problem somewhere. Your computer may well be old but i would have thought you should get more FPS than that.

And , if you can only get <10fps you can forget about NFS:Carbon (which i would anyway:razz:) as you will get 1-2 FPS with that.

What exactly is your graphics card (make/model) and your processor? What operating system are you on? Using XP on a system with 256mem isnt going to leave much free memory.

NFS Carbon is horrifically unrealistic and leaves little open for gameplay after you've beaten the career mode. Live for Speed, on the other hand, has an excellent multiplayer mode, so no two (or more) races will be the same. Also, in my opinion, the graphics are way better in LFS.

Well.. I dont know my graphic card name but it is 64Mb. And I use windows xp :(. So, in this case, what do I need? A new graphic card or extra RAM?

Definitely more RAM.

Moose - nice racing with you the other night; next time I'll try not to sandwich you into the wall

Crashgate3
22nd March 2007, 19:30
Ideally both, although I'd need to know what the other parts of your PC are - I'm guessing from the age of your PC that it probably uses 333MHz RAM - a 512MB stick of this is about £25 (about 36 euros) and even a very basic 256MB graphics card is obly about £40 (about 58 euros).

I'd need to know more about your PC's components, particularly the CPU and Motherboard to give a better estimate. Given the age of it however, I'd mainly recommend an entirely new PC.

I would buy a very good computer if I had enough money.. But I dont(14 years old).

Is there anyway I can fix my FPS?

How to enable force feedback?

Hi!
I just got a big problem. there is something wrong with my racing wheel.

When I press pedal for throtle i get full break, if I have nothing pressed it is medium braking and if I press my break pedal I stop breaking. But there is no way I can speed up.

What is wrong?

Your axes are set to combined instead of separate.

SweeeT
22nd March 2007, 20:33
no they are seperate -.-"

Ball Bearing Turbo
22nd March 2007, 20:37
In both LFS and the appropriate Windows driver software? Does the wheel actually have separate axes?

SweeeT
22nd March 2007, 20:52
Yea... Well, atm I am reinstalling LFS so I hope it works..

Reinstalling LFS won't fix this. It's either a configuration issue in your wheel drivers, or one in LFS. You said the pedals are set to separate in LFS, so only the first option remains.

Or maybe your wheel doesn't support separate pedals at all. Whatever it is, reinstalling LFS won't make it work.
