View Full Version : New STCC autokick feature?

I'm up to 79% of the Bronze license, after taking a break from STCC I popped in to 1a and came in 2nd in my first race (not going very fast, but consistent :)). Then I got booted.
Is this because my lap times aren't quick enough, or is it something else? (I've not been booted before, even when I've had a wheel clipped in T1 and completed the race with very slow times).

sensible response rather than the one above
have you got the auto gears on? (see seperate post) or any other driver aids which maybe now disallowed on these servers?

I seem to remember, but can't find, Becky saying something about if your fastest lap is over a certain percentage slower than wither the fastest lap of the race or the server record then you get booted with a message asking you to practice offline and come back.
I just looked at your race results on LFSWorld, in the race after you came second, your fastest lap was a 1.57, compared to the fastest lap of the race which was a 1.42. In the previous race where you came second your fastest lap was a 1.53.

A few more details would help... Did you get a message saying something along the lines of "come back after more practice"? And was everyone getting kicked?
I ask 'cause its happened before that someone sets a stupidly fast time (read as "someone cheats") which messes up the server stats. The server is (or was...) set to kick anyone who's ridiculously slow ie. dawdling about with the intention of being an obstacle.

If it says to practise offline then i think the problem are your laptimes. I have that too sometimes.

if it was to do with his speed and his fastest lap was 15 seconds off then what does that say of the quality of the rest of the field behind him?? :really: even if theyt were quicker they must have been way inconsistent

I suspect Bontemps has been hard done by on the STCC servers, for either cheating, being a noob, or failing to follow the rules, and now has created an immature vendetta against Becky and all things STCC as a way to feel like he's 'better'...

JamesK,
I checked your finish time to the person who finished. You simply just didn't finish the race soon enough and the server outo kicked you for not being within 120% of the leader for the duration of the race or your PB was 125% slower than the leader.
Don't quote me on those numbers they are not accurate, but it shows basically what happened.
Normally for people this isn't a problem but the guy who finished 1st runs some pretty good times and you just had a bad race, I see the race before you were a good 5 seconds quicker on your PB, if you would have ran that time again you would have been fine.

Since he's gonna have a stab at the STCC "Nazis", I'll make no apology for pointing out that he'd never have been allowed to enter the STCC servers in the first instance, if Becky hadn't given out an amnesty on all Barricaded drivers and retired their permabans. This experiment has, quite honestly, proven to me beyond doubt that the Barricade is worth keeping. The majority of people who've been banned from the STCC since Christmas were already known to the Barricade. :tilt:
[edit] I should say, MANUALLY banned. Not banned automatically for driver aids.

Question to STCC people in the know...
can this be overcome by pitting before the end if you've had a particulalry bad race (and there is an alien out in front) to ensure you can stick around for the next race??
An example would be, a first lap crash you try to drive it round and make a second lap, but that lap it's too bad, so you then go into pits lap 3/4. as you've done this you get lapped. therefore you have had only 4 laps, none of them clean or quick times and you have the 'potential' to be kicked off the server for being too slow?

I have no idea honestly, worth a shot if you think you will get kicked. Not sure what the ban time is for this, I want to say 10 days, but Becky will know for sure.

If it's going really badly, yep.. not finishing the race at all, or completing less than 75% of the race distance when you finish, it won't kick you. :)
[edit] there's no ban for not being competitive. Only for trying to cheat the system, or being caught/reported for being a jerk.
[edit2] The reason for the kick is to make room on the server for someone who may be more competitive. If the server's not busy, just head back in. Being kicked for not being so fast isn't something you should take personally :)
Becky Rose

It's just a kick, not a ban. It occurs if you complete 75% or more of the race distance and have not been remotely competitive.

Don't worry about that - join. I need some tail enders to learn my way around with. Find myself about four or five seconds off the pace on some tracks and I haven't been kicked - so go for it. (be quick though 'cause I was doing 1.10.xx on AS Nat this morning - only 3 secs behind... )
One thing I have found is that on my arthritic laptop (800 x 600, no AA/AF, 30fps with a clear road, YEAH!!!) is that the TBO cars seem to be more graphic intensive than the XRG/XFG/UF1. I can be finding my way through an 11fps slide show at T1.... The LODs seem to more forgiving (more drastic) with the slower cars. Is this right?

This is indeed the case. The only way out is to lower graphics options or upgrade the PC.

I may take my chances on the STCCC server oncde again, after all, since my last adventure on it, i've not only upgraded my wheel but also my PC as well, and beleive me LFS is much easier nowadays although with the RWD turbos they will always be tail happy with the booty i give it :really:

I just won a race on the STTC New + Bronze server and got kicked immediately. :(
I guess it's because I've throttle blip on downshift enabled. Of course it's a driving help, but you should consider, that it's much harder to drive with three pedals and manual shifter than with a normal two-pedal config. So in my opinion this help should be allowed. Or am I the only one who cannot heel + toe on the G25 because of the wide space between the pedals?
If you don't allow this help, you should kick all players with mouse and a two pedal wheel as well, because they are using the sequential gearbox driving help. ;)
P.s. The message said "practice offline first". I won the race and drove times around 1.35. There isn't much to improve for me. :tilt:

I don't think the Throttle Blip aid is banned on the Bronze server.
The message you got should be displayed for really slow people, it's possible that something is up with the system. Drop Becky a PM or post on the STCC forums.
Edit: Whats the lap record for that combo on that server? Type $records to find out.
If someone has set an artificially fast record by cheating it could be the cause.

There's no command Sam, it's just that the records file is editable now and does not require the server software to be restarted to pickup the change (I think? Not had to do it before).
I'll zap this record off anyway, so the config will work again.

Is this what the autokick feature is going to do all the time? I hope not, because its a really enjoyable set of servers, had a lot of fun close racing!!
I'm not even sure if I got my points added to my total in my license as I got kicked so fast, and I never even got a chance to save a replay!

Yeah, I was on that server too today and got kicked a couple of times, as did everyone in front of me. I checked $records and, if I seen it right, the record for the XFG was a 57.xxx and the leaders were running around 1.35.
I was also racing on Blackwood when people, including me, were getting kicked and asked to practice offline.
The two records are by two different people, if I'm correct.
How can they be getting those times and not being recognised by the server as cheating? Or are they even cheating? Was it maybe the server registering the wrong car for a time someone ran? Because there is a big difference between the times everyone was running and the times set in the records. I'm a noob here so not sure how the server works.:shy:
BTW, I enjoy racing at the STCC servers and this isn't going to stop me from racing there. There's no other servers like it, good job. :thumb: I'm 5% away from getting my Silver Licence and there's a G25 on the horizon so I'll soon be racing with the pros. Hopefully like a pro too.:D

Thats as may be, but I was doing about 1:45's and the record for that combo is 1:40, and the :57 that U4IK ST8 says about has to be completely wrong, as the nearest you can get to that in the WR's, as far as I can see, is 00:59 with a BF1, so somethings wrong?!?!?

it seems that this script does more damage than those drivers. I know it's because of impossible laptimes, but why autokick at all?

Can your plugin get WR stats from LFSW? It might be a good idea to update and store these once a day/week, and simply disallow any track record that is 2-5% faster than the WR. And if you're at it, automatically store the player info on who did that time, in order to narrow down the circumstances causing that bug.

Since introducing no cut layouts at most tracks this hasn't been an issue for a long time. We've just had two instances of it and hopefully they will be the last - if not then I will consider a number of options:
x Removing the script
x Raising the threshold
I cant use LFSW times for a couple of reasons, some records are faster than others making the % threshold that is accepted somethinig of a stab in the dark, also with an incompatible patch looming the WR's are likely to be reset and then we'll get an influx of slow WR's which are gradually replaced.

I just got kicked again, this time on South City Town Course. :(
It's really frustrating to finish in the top three and get a kick as "price".
P.s. I drove the fastest lap in the race and it tells me to practice offline...
Edit: What about setting this script to take the fastest time in the race as reference and not the server pb?
Edit2: The next race all top 4 drivers got kicked. :( the track is SO5R.

It looks like Becky and I BOTH deleted the record time that was set. Licence notes made. The person doing it is using an exploit of some kind, definitely. They've received a ban.
[edit] this means that it's safe to race at SO5R again :)

It was 43 seconds faster than the WR. I'm still lost as to how they achieved it, actually, but they've done it on someone else's server too, because their PB is even better than the cheated one on the STCC, by a second or so.
Of course, on most servers, it doesn't make much difference. It's important on the STCC servers though, because you get extra points for doing a fast lap AND you prevent others getting extra points for getting CLOSE to it.
