Hey..
im doing a survey i guess.. u can call it that..
about PC's and perfomances...
If you guys could post something like this... ill start of:
Intel Celeron 1.2ghz
380 MB ram pc100
40 hdd @ 5400
128 mb video pci (radeon 9200)
(thats all stock except the extra 128 ram and 128 video card.)
LFS : gettin about 40 fps alone in singleplayer. online goes down to 15-20 with one extra, drifting. and 15 and under when 3 or more ppl present.
CS 1.6: gettin about 20 fps, low at the beginning tho
CS Source: around 15-16.
if you could post the PC's spec's and perfomances you get in other games and at what settings, that'd be awesome.
thanks
im j/a to see with other PC's im building now a

if i was u, i'd spend the extra few dollars and get 256mb PCI-E card instead of 128. also, make sure the memory is fast. some companies sell faster memory than others.
just read your post again and realized ur talking about an old 9200 pci. lol.. nvm

Wait plz :)
Noob, if you're getting your comp beefed up for LFS, then you really don't need that much stuff. now maybe to play in a doom 3 marathon or something....
I dunno, it seems to me that too many people go totally overboard when updating a computer. I did have to get a new video card to play S-2...
total cost to update my comp was $100.
Take my brother for example, He gots this fancy case with neon strips, thermometer guages, all these cooling fans. a massive motherboard and chipset. I dunno, alot A LOT of memory. He spent close to 2 thousand U.S. on this thing. He only has one game that even almost needs that much crap.
And it's Boring.
I just think people should know more about what they intend on doing with their computer when they update it.
Ok, now you can lock it :)

2800 sempron
1GB GeIL 3200 (dual channel)
MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR Nforce2 mobo
6800 @ 350/700 @ 16/6
80GB 7200 Maxtor DiamondMax
LG 1720B TFT
LFS - Steady 60fps, never below 45 unless a huge amount of cars/smoke
CSS - Between 25 and 60 usually about a steady 45-50 though.
FPS is locked by vsync and always run 1280x1024 due to TFT screen resolution. 2x AA and 2x AF.
Looing to go to A64 ASAP

ZX81, hoping to upgrade to an Amiga 512 soon. The ZX81 really struggles keeping up with S2, and the 4kb memory expansion block on the back keeps falling out.

Gunn, mind waiting a lil bit more ? :)
thanks :thumb:
umm
well i like playing lots of games, i like rendering, i use photoshop with files that are around 20 mb, and on this PC is just slow, runs outta virtual memory just by doing works in photoshop, the PC might sound "ok" but, my friend got a Pentium III, at 900mhz and runs alot better than my 1.2ghz celeron, on all games, but thats just a comparation..
i wanna have a good pc, so i can have better quality and i like making movies too :) so after i get it ill make some lfs movies, i already made some but really low quality.
Also i wanna try to play BF2, FarCry, CS:S, and new games that even at the lowest quality, would go slow.
My motherboard supports dual PCI express card, so thats what ill be saving money for next :)

You can go on forever if you wish, but I was certain I saw a massive PC specs topic around here somewhere that might have been full of handy info for you. One thing I do know is there are plenty of members willing to offer advice so you should have some useful answers to consider regardless of how you proceed. Enjoy. ;)

I have to ask as it's bugging the shit out of me.
How do you get 20FPS on CS 1.6? My lappy can get ~30 FPS, and that uses 64mb onboard graphics. The HL engine can run on anything. My lappy had a 766mhz Cel and could claim around 15-20fps. With my new 866mhz PIII I can get 30-40 (Though this is all in 800x600 as it's all this screen can throw down), your card should make up for the slow proc.

1. There's already a long-ass thread about the same subject.
2. How really gives a f*uck about 20 pages of nonsense computer specs? It doesn't even make your virtual penis any longer because nobody cares to read those.

lol deggis why so angry?:tilt: PC envy?
maybe someone will be thinking about building a system and see some specs here and buy those parts.
sure there are many other places to get this info but the admins aparently don't see this thread as useless.
i mean saying things like that isnt exactly helping to bring the community closer together

Because someone didn't use a search and then made a useless thread.

Well you could do a "hardware discussion" thread or something like that. This kind of thread is nothing more than just endless PC specs listing.

I only have one comment for these types of threads. It is completely useless to post your framerate and compare to others unless you are running LFS the exact same way. Example:
I have 2 PC's networked together. I just unlocked LFS on the old PC so my 5 yr old can race against me on something other than Blackwood. Here's the specs for the 2 PC's
Old - Celeron 667 with 512 mb and pci ATI 9250 256 mb graphics. Pretty lame computer, eh? Well, she gets a solid 30 FPS on it, so, it's not too bad.
Mine - AMD Athalon 64 3500, 1 gig memory, and onboard 256 shared ATI Xpress 200 graphics. What do I get? Gee, a solid 30 FPS, same as her!
That's incredible, eh? Difference is, on the Celeron, that's at 800x600x16 with no AA/AF, all LFS LOD settings at minimum, etc. The ATI 3500 is 1152x864x32 with max AA/AF (I don't run AA/AF like this, only for comparison) and all LFS settings at max. (My normal racing is with 4xAA/ 4xAF and get between 40 - 60 FPS with full grid).
Moral of the story is, if you don't use the Unofficial LFS Benchmard configuration files to announce your framerate, then it means absolutely nothing.

Athlon xp 2600+
Asus A7N8X board
Ati Radeon 9800pro (Hercules)
1gig of ram
in single player on my own on kyoto i got
93fps from bumper camera
75fps from behind car follow
55fps from replay camera
with all AI on track at the back of the grid
40fps with bumper camera
29fps with follow behind car
not tested replay camera
for a 4 year old computer i am quite pleased with the way lfs runs.
I run it at 1024x768 res at 32 bit though and all detail at max
and with antialiasing set on 4x and anisotripic filtering on 4x
