Is the LFS logo trademarked? i.e. are we allowed to use it on items that we make money on (assuming thats the point of your shop ;)).

I'm not saying it isn't allowed, I'm just wondering what the situation is.

i thought drivers emporium have/had the sole rights to publish the LFS logo on anything? I know they are gone now but the people that bought them out surely have some say in the matter?

Seriously, I doubt it very much that they had any sole rights. As far as I know the devs allow anybody to make t-shirts or merchandising with the LFS logo.

lol.
considering i pixeled the logo i guess i can be safe to say there wouldnt be a chance in a million of that being true.
hmm lemme rephrase that, for my part, for 3 years now, i give out my work. a gift is a gift, i dont take it back later. its given to lfs. ppl who run lfs decide what u can or not do with it.

others sell 1 week texture work for a fantasy track. and are entitled to do so. i aint that kind of guy. i aint "pro" enuff. i aint tailored for sucess in this lovely society. and i dont mind, its just a fact. http://hudsonkerr.com/index.html ,feedback: http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=221323&page=6

just be glad stuff like http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=245&page=1&highlight=res being just a very small contribution (with don) and just a very small part of the work i did for lfs, is indeed free for lfs and free it will remain forever. just like you can play lfs permanently online for 3 years using just a demo. many things in life are still free. free doesnt always mean good. but in this case... i guess it does :)

the fact lfs didnt use cafeshop or similar stuff for its merchandise and choose to offload to a bunch of guys i dont like and never trusted was sad moment for me. its like u give something to someone that smiles receiving it then throws it in the "trash" or keeps it in the closet. Some things in lfs is/were like that and it was all a matter of me grasping better who i give stuff to, why and when. no beef, just clearer vision from me. espcially since i believed in a lot of stuff i dont any more.
lfs has many advantages driven from current dev format and status quo, but sometimes people that know how things operate inside, just wish some stuff was a lot swifter, including devs themselves :)
nothing unsolvable though...

Yeah, no way in hell should iRacing say what we can use the LFS logo on  They owned the brands/products that dE sold, not LFS' own image.

So out of interest, what percentage of the LFS merchandise sales will the devs get?

You're using their logo and their reputation to sell your products, so they deserve something out of it imo.

Other companys wouldnt allow you to use their logo to sell products, and make money without asking for a cut of the profits, dont see why they shouldnt do the same.

I was thinking the same thing. Personally, I would be opposed to buying anything of this nature unless the majority of the proceeds were going to the development team.

I agree, and i will not be buying any LFS stuff until the devs decide to open their own online store.

Then i know the people who really deserve the money will be getting it, and im not lining the pockets of someone looking to get rich quick, by using LFS. :tilt:

ok i'm mistaken then. could have sworn i saw that written somewhere... maybe i was dreaming (having a nightmare) again!Yes we did agree that they had exclusive rights to sell goods. It meant that if we wanted anyone else to sell them, we would have to notfiy dE and remove the exclusivity or terminate the agreement.

But of course, agreements have two sides. And dE dioesn't really have a shop open which sells any goods, so... whatever agreement we had with them is just history now. Of course we have had a word with them about that. :)

So out of interest, what percentage of the LFS merchandise sales will the devs get?We will receive a small percentage. It wouldn't be right to receive a large proportion of the profit, for something which is entirely someone else's effort. But it's right that we should receive a bit as it's our product that is helping to sell the goods.

Scawen

Yes we did agree that they had exclusive rights to sell goods. It meant that if we wanted anyone else to sell them, we would have to notfiy dE and remove the exclusivity or terminate the agreement.Correction... Victor has pointed out to me that it was non-exclusive in the first place. It was only exclusive in the early discussions, but in fact the agreement we signed said non-exclusive.

http://www.liveforspeed.net/page_images/pics/Nicolas%20Grignon-lfs-logo.gif

http://66.98.226.14:65080/S2logo.jpg

i know the competition well, i suggested it and wrote a few guidelines at the time for it, if i recall correctly. A few months before, i had replaced the karafonts original lfs logo (marble look) that scawen or vic had done at the time with some of my work (some might recall a placeholder logo. this was for the liveforspeed website i was working on. but it was a bit hmmm "abusive" of me to force a logo to be used ingame just coz i was redoing it along with a webpage design. 0.1 or 0.2 launch i cant recall. late 2002. so i suggested the devs for them to do a competition to keep people involved between patches etc.
after vote, nicolas gif won, and i was *STUCK* with it, and had to implement it in website and game...
actually, in game, publically, all logos used from 0.2 on (or was it 0.1 i cant recall) came out of my photoshop coz as u can see the gif didnt have enuff resolution and i always hated this logo ;) so along with the redoing of it, i could resist one or two shape retouches and heavy redo of its looks. just as u can dress up one ugly lady... at least i tried.
i tried to make it as cool as i could, had to maintain its filename which i had to keep and so did i have to keep the overall shape etc etc. so yeah its his original logo but there isnt a single pixel thats from that original gif on lfs versions. which by now this should be like the 3rd gen rlsed version of this logo.
try to save original gif in jpg and watch it rescale in your lfs :)
im sure youll spot the difference :thumb:

ps: sorry i dont have any hosted logo image without a black bg.

This is the T-shirt I've always wanted to see.

It was designed by Eric. Ignore the dE logos etc, that was just the thing he was given to draw on.

High res versions of the hollow logo are available...

I really think LFS should have an official shop run by themselves -- but the products made and shipped from like a cafe press style place. Then we could get some quality stuff I think, and Eric could make some nice merchandise designs. However, it is up to the devs I guess  Their time and money is required to start it all. But I see some profits from it! And happy fans! :D

Ok there is some confusion about this. Basically, we have been given non exclusive rights to sell LFS Branded products and there will be a share of the profits that the Devs will receive and this has already been agreed.

We will be selling logo branded shirts and merchandise as well as t-shirts with other designs and captions.

The Devs currently do not have any plans at all to open an official LFS shop and probably will never have these plans

I agree, and i will not be buying any LFS stuff until the devs decide to open their own online store.

Then i know the people who really deserve the money will be getting it, and I’m not lining the pockets of someone looking to get rich quick, by using LFS.

I agree with you there and I would do the same thing except that you can be rest assured that all of the money that will be made from the shop will be pumped back into LFS in many ways.

1. The LFS-Links website, A valuable resource for many people, with over 145,000 hits in under 3 months.

2. Quality servers for the game.

3. To fund and run 4Sight Racing Team.

I imagine that like many other people like me who play LFS. I normally end up spending a vast amount of money on LFS every year, mainly on websites, servers and equipments and I am not going to try and reverse this in any way at all.

The purpose of this shop in one easy sentence is to provide the LFS community with a place to purchase official and quality LFS merchandise.

Because, that is what this is all about, contribution to a wider audience.

Uhhh Snewham? I didn't say that, somebody else did :)

I'm the guy with the goofy bumpersticker and stupid t-shirt.

I figure if you're wanting to sell LFS merchandise, that's all between you and the devs.

Personally, as long as you ain't having a bunch a little kids in a country no one has heard of make this stuff, then good luck :)

im not in 4sight anymore so im not biased or anything

but from what i understand scotty has a very promising thingy going here, there are plans to sponsor some big events and leagues for prizes to raise the profile of the shop,he has a deal with the devs to sell LFS merchandise, and plans to buy a new domain thingy (technical term there)

we chatted about it earlier and the first thing that we talked about was the dEbacle (lol! im proud of that!) and he has premium service which means faster turn around of goods!

im really looking forward to it (and no, im not being payed to say all this)

That design you posted is badass Scawen. I cant believe noone has commented on how cool that design is.
T-shirts and other merchandise would be an absolutely awesome way of marketing for the game, plus you could make a direct profit off the sales at the same time.

Seeing how this thread is revived, I think that LFS should run a shop out of www.cafepress.com

I am not sure on the quality of the merchandise, but they are a global company and I am sure would be much better than the dE legacy :D Most of the hard work is all handled by CafePress, and they bring a great choice of apparel and other cool things. Only downside is they dont have many options for black/dark clotching (any at all?) :(
