That'd be neat, but im not in europe :P. Are you talking about rental karts though?
ayrton senna 87

yea only rental karts, just for a laugh. a fleet of proper karts would cost like 50k for 20 peeps :p

Well, only Will (Senna) and I turned up. We took some photos, and a few short movies, which I will post here tomorrow (it's 11:03pm, I've just driven back from Will's (2 hours) and had my tea. And I'm knackered cos I had little sleep over the weekend. So you can ALL wait.
Muhahahahahahahah.
No hacksawing this time.

BTW if anyone is wondering what tristan looks like in a kart, sorry i cant show u, his camera was dodgey (my excuse) and i got lots of lovely pictures like these ROFL (of the floor)
The 3rd one is of tristan winning a heat :D

:O My camera is, as you said at the time, great, so don't start with the racing driver style excuses... :P
Probably good I'm not in much, cos Fordman would just make an embarrasing movie out of it...
The only movie under 2MB (but zipped) (my camera saves as .mov, which I convert to wmv for it's smaller size. Could make these smaller, but I can't be bothered to make lower quality versions just for LFSForum.net.
Edit: Hurrah - compressed this one for you all, as it's Will with his face plastered with a cheesy grin. He'd just come 2nd to a 10 year old (with a 5 stone weight defecit mind).

Okay, this one is the start of the race he finished second in to the youngster. In fact, this is the start and the pass. Look how last the guys in 2nd gets off the grid, simply cos he is lighter. Will was faster over a lap, but slower down to T1, and couldn't pass him (he stayed in the middle of the track all the way around).
And a new photo ;)

BHP = Big Hamster Power
keiran
16th August 2005, 19:28
I used to race a water cooled 30 bhp, 125cc Rotax Max kart. So it is a hamster power kart :p
I attach a picture of the last kart I owned. Although its from 2002 my last year racing karts :(

Doesnt matter about the power of the karts, we only went to have fun
The senior rotax is 28hp (Junior 20hp) in its standard form, what chassis is that? thats hamster compared to a F1 car, but the racing is closer!

16th August 2005, 19:58
hey I was only joking about with the hamster thing :p My first year in karting was in the cadet class which was a honda engined thing (probaly the same engine in them hire karts)
It's a swiss hutless. A very nice kart to drive :)

16th August 2005, 20:47
hmm, the engine u used was probably a 120cc Honda, instead of the 2 stroke 60cc Comer engine. Hondas have much nicer bottom end power, being 4 strokes. Cadet is a good class to learn. :)
The difference here is weight, your cadet probably did about 50mph - 55mph, i think the weigh limit was 95kg including driver, am i correct? where as these GP karts probably are approaching 200kg with driver, and can only reach about 40mph.
the swiss hutless have always been quick, the build quality has been a little shoddy of late, drive it for a few laps, everything has vibrated off, and all u r left holding is the wheel :p

Yea can't remember the weight of the cadet but it was pretty light. Our club was holding a corprate hire race with pro karts and me with my one engined thing thrashed them :p They were pretty puzzled on how I was quicker till they realised the weight difference. The only thing with the honda cadet was if you were to slide in a corner then it just bogged down. Most of the time the Comer karts are the ones to win if your in a mixed grid, unless it rains when you can really show off the honda power :D
Being honest my Swiss hutless had no problems at all. Even after all the bumps and bashes from some big headed team drivers using you as brakes :Looking_a It was the best chassis I raced and it was so calm under braking making over taking easier. I think it was a 99 swiss hutless chassis but not 100% sure.
Do you race karts ?? Or you must be involved some how as you know a lot about the tech side.

yea i raced TKM for a manufacturer and have driven rotax a bit. my mate races formula A and european ICA aswell, so i might do ICA next year instead of TKM and max.
the intrepid or the birel is the choice CIK chassis nowdays, the swiss hutless is quick, the problem is the fact that it just falls apart.

Don't say TKM :x Got a piston sitting in my room which says it all ... stupid previous owner never replaced something so cheap (can't remember exactly might come back to me or I will ask my Dad who will know :p) Lets just say the bill was in 3 figures. Although saying that my Dad had his rotax engine blow up spectaculary and ofcourse it had to be a race where he was racing for the win. Took out most of the following cars as its blow up into a tight corner causing a massive pile up. The con rod broke and went right through the casings and through the bottom of the engine. What a mess though the engine was packed with fine bits of metal. Turned out to be a manufacture fault on the con rod (it had just been rebuilt) yet rotax wouldn't do anything about it :/
Have you raced on any of the Scottish Tracks like Boyndie, Golspie etc ??

did u seize the TKM? TKM rebuilds are expensive anyway, normally about £400 and not long between rebuilds, but ICA would be even less lol
yea, the rotax engines have been getting loads of conrod failiures recently, some after only a few minuites of running. rotax seems to be losing popularity.
i have raced at Larkhall and been to a track near edinburugh called the diamond, which i think susie stoddards dad owns. i have been to a few indoor places there too, one in Fife which was pretty cool.

Cool Larkhall is part of the group of tracks I raced at except I never went to Larkhall :( Yea it was a little spacer type thing (i think would need to ask my Dad :P) which popped out and well the end result was me spinning round at the front of the pack :x I think it was about £200 and the guy that rebuilt it only charged like £30 labour which was nice of him :) After that I really took the year out and only raced at my local club because the chassis we were running was not right (slightly tweaked) and the fact that the engine cost so much to rebuild. Rotax Max was so reliable back when me and my Dad raced it with my Dad's blow up being the only one the guy had heard of but now they seem to be going downhill :(. It's a shame as it's a great class and the way the engine lets you know without doing damage if the jetting is wrong :p

lucky you :p In my whole 3 years I raced (3 different classes) I only had one new set of tyres in Max as it was a big meeting. I used them all year and I was still beating the ones who turned up with new tyres every meeting :p even gave Carol Brown who became Scottish champion a run for her money. Although the cheeky girl put me on the grass when I clearly had the corner :scratchch
Surely you can get more than £100 for that TKM :o we just sold a kart from early 90s for £80 and it's not even running and needs tyres :p It used to run but its sat for so long without being fired up it needs a good clean :p

Just find a really big hill.. And pretend its got an engine by making the sounds yourself. ;)
£100 seems like a reasonable price to me, not that i would know, as im not "into" karts much, prefer my bike's.
What engine's will fit on it stock?
I've always wanted a Kart, but i want something with some power, not your poxy hire carts we mostly see here that struggle to get to 20mph..
Now, if you could fit a CR/KX 500 engine on it, now that would be fun! :trampolin :lovies3d:

The fact that the piston is missing about 20% of itself, and that the ring grooves have complete worn (broken) away, does show up on that photo. If there is worse stuff I CAN'T see, then I don't want to know. Bet the bores looked a bit worse for wear too...

This track looks a bit similar to the place I'm trying to make it at least twice a month now :) Also some slippery surface and laptimes seem about the same :)
I did 27.09 on my 2nd 8 min session I've done there, track record is 25.21 :)
But both of the times the times have been quite close to the record on all of the laps in the end, so I need to drive at least 12 mins, then the tyres get nicely warmed for some better times :D
ayrton senna 87
22nd August 2005, 12:56
yay rudi has the karting bug :) Maybe u want to come to the UK, meet the devs and drive on our little track :D im serious :)
indoor tracks are very fun to start learning karts, and to go when u r fast
the main thing u have to remember with indoor kart places is that ALL of the karts are different, some have good engines and bad chassis, some have new tyres on one side and some have old tyres all round, others are pure bad and others are great! The amount of fuel in the tank makes a big difference at places like this, with so little power, 4kg is alot of weight to carry around, so demand the marshalls to sypen out the fuel :p
try all of the different karts and ask the marshalls which ones the good and bad ones are, if they are anything like over here, they wont want you to use the best one, because its 'theirs' and they wanna drive it when u have gone home :p
then get the tyres warm and u will do 24s hehe :)
PS post a vid of u driving pls, i wanna see teh rudi driving in real life!

@Tristan
The piston was brand new only a few hours old :( The previous owner did it himself and didn't replace something (can't remember what :p) but it was a part which wouldn't cost much yet he used ones from the old piston that came out :really: Yea the bore was a mess :faint2: Cost a fortune to get it rebuilt, I'm pretty sure it was about £200 :/ I have casings from a Max engine which look worse after a few hours old con rod broke and went wild inside the engine

Well, heh, our best driver in Estonia tryed some kart tracks lately and he said this one was the toughest one and the karts were quite even.
Well, the track is indeed very bumpy and veryvery tight, It's about 1.3 karts wide in tightest point. Well, 8 mins killed my hands completely the first time and made me sweat. I also tryed another track, outdoor, 8 mins was a piece of cake compared to that. Dont think I can get a vid, dont have such cam to put in the kart :)

Funny thing about those is, you could by a Stock 250 twin superkart which would leave it for dust, even a 125 gearbox would beat it :) still, i think with the big engined ones its about the work that goes into it aswell. sure would be fun, but would be faster and safer with a light purpose built superkart engine :D
someone did the same thing with a GSXR 600 engine! Sounded great but wasnt as fast by a long way,
BTW - most of the superkart engines have about 70-90bhp and weigh 250-270kg with the driver :Looking_a:pillepall

Yeah, it would, but like you said, its the fact that one person "bodged" this together in his garage that makes it much more special then something you can buy.
I've seen the gixxerkart (http://www.ringmini.de/English_Version/GSXR_Kart/gsxr_kart.html)a while back, it's actually a GXSR 1100 fourstroke in it, giving out about 113/116 bhp.
The problem with that one is, its got too much power, does nothing but powerslide everywhere, and it looks like it eats tyres pretty quick aswell.
The kx will no doubt be the same, but i dont think you would notice much once its in the powerband. Too busy giggling to yourself, or wetting your pants..

EDIT: hmm, it says it can only do 170kph, superkarts can do about 170mph (270kph) one some tracks, and they have 20hp less...
Attachment, oh dear, what a wrecker!

lol, that "fool" is John Halliwell and he is actually a good driver usually, hes a nice guy aswell, him and andy are good mates so they fell out a bit over that :)
I had a good battle for the novice trophy in that race, it was the platinum cup shown on Motors TV a while ago, they gave us all a DVD of it. My mugshot comes up in the B-Final, missed the A final by 1 place :schwitz:

Im sure if they added the aero modifications like they have on superkarts, it would reach the same speed easily.. ?
BTW, have any of you ever heared of "kartvader"?
Have a weird feeling about mentioning KV here, so just incase...
*me puts on flame proof suit*
[edit] Wow, i read that too quick, your telling me they go an extra 100kph faster then that? For real?

lol kartvader, is that the guy driving a superkart on the streets? they didnt know his adress, but they tracked him from his website rofl!
yea superkarts go 100kph faster, but i think the gixxer kart figures are suspect, a 100cc 2 stroke Formula A can reach about 100mph (160kph) on the track that metalstar drives on, and thats fixed gear....

Yeah, thats him. LMAO.
Was gonna post a link to the vid, but as you mentioned it seems he's been caught, and has had his site removed. So no video...
[edit] ha, his sites still up, you just gotta use kartvador instead. ;)

I would rather have this guy on the road in a kart, then some of the drivers i see over here that somehow managed to get a license for a car..

Coffee, where are you abouts?
I'm actually thinking we could arrange similar meetings here in Sydney too,
you can hire 13HP carts on the Eastern Creek course...altho not cheap, but heaps of fun. They even record correct laptimes and print you a result sheet (included in the price)!
Edit: sorry 13HP only...

Anyway, have fun!
