Ahhh........I see.
Well, without removing the "rule" for everyone, I am not sure it could be removed, not sure though, I guess this is a question for Becky to answer.

By the sounds of it Becky has allowed him auto gears but now (probably that big update to the software) he can't use them.

Can't you take anybody at face value? You'll be accusing him of cracking S2 next.

The old software allowed a special exemption for redwolf, unfortunately in the new software as I was trying to test the feature you disapeared offline - so I couldn't test if the new software has you properly exempt yet. It's a bit difficult to test and solve without you there, so I think we need to have an online date :)

Another question for Becky, a little off topic though.
I love your servers, but they are allways so damn laggy for me so I can hardly race. I have heard that others are experiencing the same thing.
Are you going to move to better servers soon? :)
Oh, and thanks for all that you have done for the community :thumb:

I have built a new server, i'm just waiting on a CPU. When it arrives it'll go on soak test for a few weeks before being installed in a datacentre near Heathrow in the UK.
It's 100% my own machine, and dedicated to STCC / Banshee Studdios.

But thats good to hear :D

It's not cheap, but this hobby of mine has already cost a small fortune so another small fortune doesnt hurt that much :)

I'll second that:thumb: I'm loving the STCC servers...it's nice to feel your achieving something every time your racing on them, and the standard of driving, especially on the silver/gold license servers, is generally very good.
Thanks Becky:)

Are you going to move to better servers soon? :)the server their on run all UKCT servers, the servers always give me excellent pings, perhaps there was someone with a bad connection on there?
Becky Rose
5th March 2007, 16:43
In fairness that (a player) is usually the cause of poor pings, not the actual server. I do know that last night though Sam was doing stuff on the server which effected online play - I was on there at the time and moaned at him though and he immediately accomodated.
To be clear, the new server isn't in any way a complaint about UKCT at all. They're a great bunch and I intend to continue to leach their services for all I can :D

Just out of curiosity, do your ISP throttle/shape traffic?..are the STCC servers laggy 24hrs a day?
During peak hours i can hardly ever get on the STCC servers because my ISP blocks the ports when things get too busy on the network, resulting in pings in the thousands. When the ports aren't throttled my ping is 20 and i find the STCC servers to be some of the smoothest out there.

FYI: All STCC servers recently where moved to the 27000-27050 range, which we chose because it is commonly used for Counter Strike and therefor, in theory, exempt from most ISP's throttle shaping.
If your ISP is shaping this port, they are evil. Possibly even as evil as AOL.
You pay for internet access, unless your contract specifically states it is just for web and email.

I'm a new racer and I have been reading all the STCC material and the rules and I can't find a written rule that prohibits driving with auto gears on. Where can I find it?
Thanks

It doesnt need to be written. It just doesnt let you :). Welcome to LFS btw :)
EDIT: Redwolf, I think I spotted the problem (capital letter issue) so you should be able to run autogears now.

Ring customer support/check your isp's forums
I might well be barking up the wrong tree...im not sure how many countries ISP's shape/throttle traffic. It's just becoming more common every day in the UK as the infrastructure is sadly 20th century, when people want a 21'st century service.
We have piss poor speeds as it is compared to most of Europe/America, yet we still cant squeeze all out users into the pipes.
<end of "whats this country coming to" grumble>

Your so right, PlusNet don't seem to agree though:shrug:
Ping to your servers at this moment.....1064ms:thumbsdow....guess ill be on after 11pm then.

Err...yup...Plusnet are the new AOL/Tiscali...wont be long till i escape thank god:thumbsup:

Not quite, AOL charge over £30 a day since they went free...
I'm not kidding either, and thats just to give technical support to their customers, yes GIVE support. Not even using their internet connectivity service - for a 3rd party to sit in their chatrooms helping their customers...
Because although he doesn't talk about it, that's exactly what SamH was doing... Until they billed him over 30 quid a day, over to the man himself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSLbdlRbdB8&mode=user&search=
I think Plusnet have a way to go before they are that evil... :D

While there's a little Q&A going on ... has the reprogramming the other day cut off mid-fielders completely? Going in when there was 5 or so other racers saw my license jump several points per race, today after about an hour of finishing mid-field in a full server I hadn't got any further; before, I used to be able to crawl up with a point or two each race.

You score points completely independantly for a number of reasons. It may be at the track the other day you scored points for your lap time - but on this track you may be too far off the server record to score points for it. In both cases you'd unlikely gets points for position based on your description.

Im stunned at that.
I take it all back...PlusNet are a bunch of lying cowboys, who are extremely difficult to deal with...but AOL really are the lowest of the low.
BTW...i just checked the list of games PN have ports opened for, and counterstrike/counterstrike source are on the list, yet I'm definitely unable to join the STCC servers due to massive pings during peak hours. I don't know what the hell they are playing at.
Ohh well, ive just seen a server called "mid life crisis server"....ill have to have a cruise round there for a few hours ;)

Time to be more aggressive then! If I quit letting people pass I can probably squeeze the odd podium finish :)

I dont recall if I put that into the slightly revised algorythm or not, I guess not... Ahh, I think the 1pt if on it's own only matter if the race is 10 minutes or longer, as the race time calculation probably rounds it down to 0 now.

Thats good to know, it saves me flogging a dead horse on the 1b server on certain circuits :)
