View Full Version : Tracks we wanna see in S3

In keeping with the thread on cars, post in here what you'd like to see in S3 as far as tracks go.

Because there aren't yet any signs that the developers are going after licenses for real-life tracks, please keep your choices fictional. (ie. don't say Nurburgring or Spa no matter how much we want them). Rather, choose a style as you'll see in my choices.

- a short, low-banked oval, suitable to the FOX and isn't flat out all the way around. Make it American in atmosphere.
- a country roads circuit, like the Isle of Man TT
- a German/Belgian style track that winds through forests and features long straights and fast turns (ideal for FO8)
- an airport course using runways and taxiways

If there's going to be karts, then a track like Buckmore Park. Even if there's not going to be go-karts (which I'm afraid will happen), I'd still like to have Buckmore-type of track, for MRT to race in.

Airport course seems to be damn good idea.

I would personally like some more Blackwood configurations.

Personally, I'd like to see an extremely long straightaway. Not only would it be fun to hit maximum high speeds, but sometimes when I get bored, I go to the dragstrip and pretend I'm driving on the street - with AI cars being regular people driving along (think GTI vs. FZR). Then I watch the replays and see how insanely quick I accelerate past them or how big of a lead I can catch them on. Good fun. (Oh, and forget I said this, but a straightaway would be PERFECT for playing with LFSTweak) :shhh:

Nordschleife? Yes, that was me. :)

Scottie
1st October 2005, 10:31
I think the kind of tracks we need now with the faster cars are more the type like...

Nordschleife, Le mans (without the chicanes), Spa... they need an atmosphere about them. Kyoto GP is quite a long track, yes, but to me it's atmosphere is still the same as any other 3-4km track... need a track with character... out there.

but lets not forget the slower cars too...

maybe one or two more tracks like Bathurst, Philip Island or brands hatch... still with character, but a little twistier.

Langstrecken... Long tracks that you just can't learn by driving 10 laps... I'm talking 10 miles minimum. Likes of the Nordschleife...

Ovals... Shorttracks, Speedways, Superspeedways, Dirttracks.

Rally stages... Anywhere from 4 to 50km multi surface roads through forests, towns, farmland.

Stadiums... Different setups inside a football stadium for different short racing series... I'm thinking drifting, pick-up truck racing

Kart tracks... Short narrow tracks for those small open wheeled moped type cars.

I really want too see a massive uphill track, with no downhills - Which will reverse as a massive downhill course.

Think this will push the cars to their limits, if we have full engine damage ie oil temp, water temp, over heating etc by the time s3 gets here

Cheers,

I just would like to see more nonreal tracks by Eric. He is artist, no artist wants to copy something what allready done, I wouldnt. Maybe he could do hes own Nurburing, better and even more dangerous. There is no limits because this insnt real, we must remember that. I want my wheels of the ground and fly :D

And another thing to remember is that S2 ISNT EVEN OUT YET!

We have no influence on S2's features anymore. The next version we can influence is S3. So this isn't silly at all.

Vain

Thats too true :D , The devs prob already know what they are going too add into S2, and what things they are going to sort out.

I have to agree that Eric design tracks for LFS that are unbelievable. All the tracks in LFS are too fun to drive and the apexes are right on. I'd love to see an airport track with lots of bumps allowing the cars to fly midair. I also would enjoy racing at a port city like Monaco. I think a long straight would be boring. Just hit the drag strip.

i think the current tracks ae AWESOME. it's fun once you get to know where the little bumps are and such.

on thing that might be added (if it's not already) is different sections of pavement on the track with varying levels of grip. corners where the asphalt has been ripped up and concrete has replaced it.

maybe corners where the "line" is one material and off line is another.

also, it would be nice if a track could "rubber in" as the laps went on. and what about if an off course car could bring sand or dirt back onto the track with him.

oh! how about after a few laps if you went off line (could be more pronounced on a street track) you'd pick up "marbles"

these are the little things that plauged me in my karting years.

I wanna something like an "American route 55 style" track! Gimme a veeery long stright to cruise on, or make a "country road route 55 style circuit" ... that would be great!:boing:

Dont want to seem like a smart ***, but I suppose you mean Route 66!

Would be very cool though, to have a very long straight of road to race on, yet probably not very competitive in the end.

I would like to see the same kind of creativity that came with S2. Fictional tracks, very diverse, but extremely competitive, and loads of fun. And one can always improve on these tracks, which I see as the main feat.

L(Oo)ney

Wheres the fun in going in a straight line? Each to their own i guess..

Now, going in a straight line, while jumping over multiple 10/20 foot jumps, that sounds like real fun, to me!

I agree. This is something I'd like to see as well. A winding country road. Not a race track at all, just a long, twisty two lane road with plenty of elevation changes. There were tracks like this in the original Need for Speed (before it was all about 20" chrome wheels and stickers) and those were a LOT of fun.

I'd also like to see off-road tracks that have no pavement and plenty of jumps (a truck or buggy to go with it would be nice). Maybe an indoor stadium dirt track or an outdoor track with several different configurations.

A dirt track oval and a sprint car or stock car to use on it.

A figure-8 track that will allow us to run multiple laps. This would fit perfectly in the infield of the dirt track. :) I watch this type of racing every year on the 4th of July and it looks like a LOT of fun.

I would like to see Brands Hatch and Bedford Autodrome circuits implemented (and their variations - GP, club etc)

Main reason being because I've driven those in real life many times :D

I wana see a really long track, like 7-8 minutes, with changes of elevation, like start high above sea level, then go downhill.
Not so much a downhill "mountain" just a long track with a downhill look to it.

Some great suggestions here, but Airport tracks? Airport tracks are usually hated by drivers because they are bumpy, slippery, dangerous, and have no elevation changes. Most airport tracks suffer from unimaginative layouts as well. I recall reading comments by various drivers stating how much they loathed airport circuits and setting up the car was always a bit of guesswork. Are people suggesting these tracks because of the surrounding environment? I can see how that may be appealing. I'm yet to see a decent track utilising airport runways. (not refering to WW2 airfields that became cicuits like Goodwood, Silverstone etc). I can see how a change of track scenery is appealing in an aiport setting, though.

I would like to see some versons of real tracks. And especially Swedish tracks :)
A track like Mantorp Park for example, could be a perfect track location since it has at least three possible configurations.

http://www.racingcircuits.net/Sweden/Mantorp%20Park.gif

And it would be VERY fun to have the not yet finished (if it ever will be) Viking Motor Park in LFS

http://www.racingcircuits.net/Sweden/Viking%20Motor%20Park%20Oval.gif

As you can see, this one has many planned configurations and if finished, it will be one of Europes biggest tracks.

I see what your saying, but airfield tracks like Bedford Autodrome are great for rookies/noobs because they are so flat, and the run offs are massive, and dont punish you for spinning. The circuit layout is actually quite good.

Hey my mistake, ofcourse i meant Route66

I think its odd that two people both not living in the US think a Route 66 track would be cool. I didn't know the Route 66 legend extended past our borders. Cool.

I live uh, about .3 miles from a section of that road.

My prob with airport tracks in sims/games has always been finding my turnin point. Soooo much concrete and such a narrow field of view.

I like the idea though. Would definitely be cool to have.

LRB_Aly
3rd October 2005, 11:17
I always hated airport tracks cause of the narrow field of view, and setting the car up is difficult and to find the turn in points. And cause of this probs, i don't think that it would be such a good thing for rookies. Cause you don't really have an orientation on these tracks. Well anyway there surely are poeple who like those though.

Yeah I'd like a "route 66" course too.
that would a good idea :) it would be cool to have something like that.
you could have gas stations that were pits. And where it runs from
New Mexico to Arizona is some of the prettiest country I've ever seen.

The trouble is, how much space and memory would be required to make a course that was 150km long?
But real tracks? I dunno I think they ought to base a real track on Eric's aston tracks. And I also got a feeling with S-3, Eric will come up with something that will make people say... nordiwhat?

I was just watching some videos of all kinds of cars driving at Nordschliefe, and I have to say, if we had a similar track... regardless of length, all I would really want is something that has rapid change of elevation and proves to be very challenging because of the huge bumps and undulations that you always encounter.

Would be very fun to have. Otherwise, if it weren't a road course, make it rally, that would be nice :).

But I see people suggesting a 'Route 66' type map... hmmm just as long as we get a few supercars that can go really fast, I'll vouch for that :). But doing a huge super draft in slow cars would be sweet.

I want something with mountains and hills and elevation changes, and of course narrow roads. A really long road.

Other than the tracks, I really think that we need a sedan, I'm not talking about luxury, something like WRX STi or lancer evo. I mean, all the cars are 2 door...or no door. And maybe then whatever that car's name is going to be, make a GTR version as well?? :)

I don't know, just giving some ideas.

As above:-

An alpine track, with 1000ft drops and sheer cliffs either side of the track,
hairpin after hairpin, and loads of tunnels !

If they put a bus in the game you could play out "The Italian Job" every night

And see if the FO8 really can drive upside down at 120mph

Or maybe the centre of London, past all the sights, and , even down into the Tube system (as in Midtown Madness).

It would be excellent to see a real track in LFS, especially something like the Nordschleife or Brands.

One thing I never want to see is tracks that have been converted from other games: You see this sort of thing in GPL and nascar games all the time, and most of them look like arse. Eric would have to make these tracks, and this means that the devs would have to fork out for a license for them, which is pricey.

How about we all pitch together and buy the rights for Eric to create the digital likeness of a track?

Hyperactive
9th October 2005, 14:19
What LFS is missing at the moment is a 5km long tarmac track which:
- is very bumpy
- has no loong straights
- lots of altitude changes (jumps and sudden down/uphills)
- a lot of trees and other objects to prevent cutting :)

So a track perfect for a car with around 200-300hp and rwd

And FE black is not this...

The game needs a track like old Hockenheim.

Now before you reach for your barf bags, hear me out on this.

FO8 racing as it is now is by and large a survival game. Outside of the oval, even at Westhill, we're too busy dancing on the throttle and trying to keep the car under control to actually have a good race.

We need a track almost exactly like old Hockenheim. There should be a windy section to actually reward car control skills of the driver but there should also be a section with really long straights to allow drivers to think more about passing than about whether they can keep the car under control.

Oval racing isn't everyone's cup of tea, but right now it is the best if not only track suited to this car.

So far people have suggested long and fast tracks and slow and painful tracks (like me too:)). Pain is good :bullwhip:

Definitely a Bathurst inspired course. (http://xtramsn.co.nz/sport/0,,12049-4849759,00.html)

Long fast uphill sectoin with a dangerous, steep and twisty top section, followed by a huge downhill straight with a massive and frighteningly fast chase at the end.

Oh, and maybe a V8 to go with it :D

A modern F1 GP circut might be interesting too for the fast open wheelers (maybe even faster ones in S3). Maybe inspired by Shanghai, Bahraine or Magny Cours.

Three suggestions

1 Mille Miglia (italian for 1000 miles) is a classic race (would that be long enough for ya ?)
2 The race from my office (Newcastle) to Edinburgh (about 120 miles), with a package that has to be there in less than an hour and a half. The A68 or the A697, without a doubt, two of the finest roads in the world, (if you've ever driven them, you'll know)
3 The race to find a parking space in London, on a weekday morning !

Motopark (http://www.motopark.fi), Finland or something like it would be nice, there is nice hill parts and also few bit technical turns, braking downhill and turning same time, so will be mostly for bit more advanced racers?
In a future that track may not exists because of few ppl that has summer houses on that area :(

Track is available for GPL here (http://www.kolumbus.fi/keni1/motopark.htm), so some of you may test it a bit. Very big thanks to authors that have made track available.

Also that is my home track and I have grown to like those kind of track, like Green Hell too, hills corners, blind corners, fast parts and slow parts. Many tracks are bit too straight forward for my liking, Ovals I can't like, no matter how I try I just can't learn to like from those.

Also I'm one of those idiots asking mountain road ;) So something like that would be nice too :)

Simple and Flat are big no no for me, but I think that some ppl like those too, I think that there should be tracks for everyone.

well i guess a nordschleife type track is gonna have to be done, alot of us are hoping for it ;)

i'd like to see more kyoto gp long style tracks only with much shorter straights (long enough for safe overtaking moves though) and no banks so we dont have to sacrifice downforce and struggle through cornors for the rest of the lap....basically more from the blgp/westhill style would feed my fo8 fetish nicely :D

Noob here.

I was sorta hoping for a really, really difficult track. A uber-downhill or uphill course, mountain-style. Lots of short straights, really small hairpins (1st or 2nd gear) combined with some 3rd-4th gear bends on a really thin, 2-lane (plus shoulders) road. The point of this is for someone to flex their car control rather than what car they use, and make it possible for say, the XFG to kill the XRT, LX4, or even a RB4 on such a road.

Eh...here's something of what I'm thinking about.

Anotehr thing that would be awesome is to have a track editor and have it so people can download it from your server, just like getting a Counter Strike map. That way we could attract the track makers and anyone.

One track that would totally ROCK is to see Sekia Hills in it. I would bow down to the devs!:lovies3d:

Definitely a Bathurst inspired course. (http://xtramsn.co.nz/sport/0,,12049-4849759,00.html)

Long fast uphill sectoin with a dangerous, steep and twisty top section, followed by a huge downhill straight with a massive and frighteningly fast chase at the end.

Oh, and maybe a V8 to go with it :D

A modern F1 GP circut might be interesting too for the fast open wheelers (maybe even faster ones in S3). Maybe inspired by Shanghai, Bahraine or Magny Cours.

I'm with you on that, bathurst is one amazing track

I'd love these track :
-Bathurst ou a bathurst like track (for exemple like blue mountain raceway in forza)
-Laguna seca (or a copy of a fictional track that look like laguna)
-Surfer paradise city track
-A track based on a close road for racing in the mountain (like fuji for exemple) ideal for drift :D
-A complete offroad track :)
-A1 Alpine ring track :D
With tese tracks i'd like to see fictional 70's american muscle too (like 'vette and dodge charger mustang etc....)

There still seams that there are more possiblities at Aston for new tracks.
With the already popular North and Grand Touring proving that there are untapped depths.

Idea 1 is a combination of Club and Cadet. It would make new approaches to a lot of corners and make the tight hairpin pair of corners different.
Idea 2 is a combination of Cadet and the upper part of National. This would mean taking on the fast chicane in Club from the top hairpin and making it even more daring.
Idea 3, combine Kyoto National and GP Long making a monster course that would challange all drivers and allow some long endurance races.

Just and idea.

If they ever post a track editor other than the autocross one I will make several long freeway type tracks. I've always wanted to make tracks like that. I guess in certain places you could block off certain lanes to make the track more challenging... I think it'll be fun

It'll be like ridge racer but more realistic.. it would be cool if we could add traffic

TG test track is useless, figure of 8.

I have an idea. I know we already have 3 brittish racing tracks but one more wouldn't hurt. One with KILLER uphils and downhills, tight, unforgiving, bad tarmac, challenging corners and series of corners, cambered outwards sometimes, etc. Aston is WAY too modern for that, Westhill is quite modern too, too wide at least, Blackwood was close but has been renovated since, quite wide now too. So basicly i'm saying to go back to the roots, S1 style. Narrow tracks that give the feeling of a rollercoaster BUT when you drive it right, hit the corner like a nail on it's head, it gives this FANTASTIC feeling of being the king of the world (or that corner :D).

What do you think?

First of all, I'd like to see a track editor. That would be fantastic - and I'm not talking about an autocross editor.

Here are the tracks I'd like to see.

1. Sebring International Raceway with current AND with 1950's hairpin
2. Barber Motorsports Park. This is the #1 reason I play rFactor - so I can practice on this prior to actually racing it.
3. Homestead Speedway, Miami

Of course, the above are personal greedy reasons - I race those circuits, and I would love to have LFS as my "replacement" sim !

Circuits in the UK I'd like to see :

1. Silverstone - modern F1 wide circuit with lots of overtaking
2. Castle Combe - a "club" circuit with a very difficult blind off-camber corner
3. Goodwood - a "classic" circuit.
4. A Hillclimb - either Wiscombe or Prescott
5. A tough special stage rally course - such as Kielder forest in Scotland !

If I had all these SE US and UK circuits I'd retire from work and play LFS day in and day out. I might even cut down on real racing .......!

Silverstone isn't a modern F1 circuit. It has been used for F1 for a while with practiacly no changes. It's still ran on an abandoned airfield. But i'd still like either one that is simmilar or a track that is more like one that i have described above. And we already have 2 modern racing circuits situated in England - Aston and Blackwood. Westhill may be modernized with a layout or two in the future too.

Fern Bay Black isn't the longest track in LFS anymore, Aston takes it's place. But Black is nicer for GTRs, that's true. Also try SO Long if you haven't, rollercoaster too :> An even scarier one :D

great track yaamboo! what do you use to design tracks??
since its gonna be hard for the devs to afford a real track licence, what we could do is organize a little contest, each one of us just design a track and post it. then with a simple vote, the community decides which track is gonna appear in our beloved LFS. what do you think? of course the pbm is we cant see elevation on your track yaamboo, whereas a race track has to have elevations issue, do you guys now any simple tool to create race track or add elevation lines on a track like yaamboo's?

Maybe true, but as there are quite many requests for narrow tracks with elevations I think Monaco would be cool because its just like that: narrow with elevations.

I also presonally prefer real world tracks over fictional ones as LFS is a more realistic sim than any other driving game I´ve tried - the very reason (in addition to the excellent online gaming interface) why I selected it :)

There's a little track that's near me, very hilly, very challenging and I think it would transfer over to LFS really well. The one thing that would be a problem is getting the permission of the group that runs the track, to recreate it for a product that would be sold - I talked to them about making it for GPL and they didn't mind, but for LFS, well...

It's 1.6 miles long, 12 turns and near 100 feet, if not more of elevation change

This is the map of the track from the website.

http://www.atlanticmotorsportpark.com/images/AMP-Map.jpg

Think of it as a smaller, tighter, more demanding mosport, with bigger elevation change. The drop through turn 1 is unreal even going 60km/h

Going down can be more challenging than going up. Also, more erics maps particularly with a laguna seca corkscrew (but not laguna seca (boring except for the corkscrew).

I'd love to see Nurburgring, and no F1 tracks please. Done them to death.

On the track issue though, I would like to compliment Eric on his artistry. His tracks are brilliantly designed, and would make first class tracks in real life. Well done!!!

My idea for a track is a little different than the ones above.

I'm not suggesting a particular track. Rather, the dev's allowing others to make tracks themselves. Then we can have some real world tracks that aren't made by LFS dev's. Similar to the way GPL works. It's a game that's nearly 10 years old, and still has new tracks, or updates for tracks, coming out regularly. I don't think the Bathurst council, or the mayor of Suzuka is out hunting down the bastards that made their track for GPL and there's more people driving GPL at the moment than LFS.

I don't think we should be able to edit cars. I don't think we want to go down the rFactor route with 50 different mods. But having real world tracks with the cars we have would be a great inclusion to LFS.

IMHO, appart from the wet weather and sound, the only thing this game needs to be near-perfect is real world tracks, and if no money's being made off them, it can only be a good thing

Sounds like you're after Grand Theft Auto or something :shrug:Have you ever played the original Need For Speed? It had tracks like this and was probably the most fun racing sim I've ever played (including LFS). There were mountain tracks, city tracks, and racing circuits. On the mountain tracks there was traffic traveling in both directions which added a big element of risk to the racing. The city tracks also had traffic, but only in the same direction (racing down the freeway, essentially). Not only did you have to tame the road, but you had to contend with traffic as well, knowing when you could push it and when you should slow down a bit.

I would give almost anything to have the original NFS remade with the physics of LFS.

What about an 'Old Ring' area with 3 tracks:
- Nordschleife
- Südschleife
- Combined (Nord und Süd)
Like it was in reality before they scrapped the Süd in the early 80s. There was also some shorter piece of track in Südschleife used for practising.

Then we would need some old classic car for those tracks.

Fabio
For that, we'd need a big AutoX area and TG's permission.

The Top gear track is certainly possible. To cut the long story short, the deal could be something like this:
If Top gear wanted to make a public version of the track LFS could provide the software for it. In simplest form LFS gets the track and the car (probably the Suzuki Liana) and Top gear gets a sim in which the viewers can try their skills and could try to beat the celebrities' (and Stig's) times. This wouldn't add the workload on devs on long term because the TG part would fully be integrated into LFS. No separate versions. LFS was downloaded just like now from lfs.net. All that is needed is the TG track environment and the car. And the track could be used as a environment for airfield tracks and autocrossing layouts (few could be provided as tracks by LFS devs).

Here's the catch: The TG car would be available in demo, but only offline and for that TG track only. For a TG hotlap competition, for example. The demo players got the Suzuki Liana on the TG track and the XFG/XRG/XRT on Blackwood. But with demo lisence you could drive the TG part just offline. Also no LFS cars on the TG track. Only S2 registered users could drive the TG track and the Liana online. I'm not sure about the Liana' specs but I guess it would be quite close to the UF1 ;). With top gear's track we could verify how accurate the physics in LFS, in arcade way at least. It would be interesting to see how close the lap times were, if the track was properly modelled. Not really anything scientific value but still something.

The fact that LFS is (basically) english helps too. I'm sure TG would prefer an english solution ;). And LFS would certainly get a lot of air time all around the world.

I want something nasty and dangerous !
Some japanese Touge style tracks, and some crazy mountain roads.
Something like Pikes Peak, where we can run the nasty cars!! Even pikes peak reversed would kick ass!

It's hard to say what would be a really good addition though,
there are so many different people with different ideas of what is fun.
Myself I can't stand the F1 style tracks with wide roads and large corners,
while I know many others do.

I think a good idea is to segment the game off a bit, into race, drift, drag, cop&robbers etc... I think this should be implemented into the multiplayer server list as filters.

Then develop speciffic tracks and maps for each segment.
Maybe a city map for cop&robbers. Race and drift go pretty much hand in hand track wise, but I want a bunch of twisty, narrow tracks for drifting purposes. Several airfield layouts for drag, and creating own layouts, as well as purpose built drag stadiums. We would need some good WRC rally courses for the ppl who like off road. Snow would be kewl, for use with studded tires.

For detail on the tracks themselves, I'd like a tad more realism, like wet spots,
uneven surfaces, varying asphalt quality stuff like that! Like another person said, even places where the course has "rubbered in".

i would really like to see a norwergian valley style track with lots of elevation changes, dangerous bends, and just enough space for two cars to pass.
i would say it will be a life saver for me, so i won't die racing on these roads in real life :eclipseeh

I've compiled a small list of a couple of racetracks for the Scaviers to have a guideline. Just to lighten the workload, you know.

List 1 (http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Category:Tracks)

And since that one is a little USA-biased, here's another one:

List 2 (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Motorsport-Rennstrecken)

Those are just the ones that need implementation asap, preferably in the next patch, but I could wait till Z if neccessary.

One track i really want to see in LFS, is Finnish track called Ahvenisto.

Wonderful and challenging track, i think most of LFS drivers would love it too.

Some tracks wich would suit (future) LFS cars never hurt ^^

My list

- A big/bigger rally track, a must imo
- A track wich could suit a possible S3, V8 Supercar.. Many curves, one straight part?
- A track losely based on the VW test track? :scratchch
- And last, something i've seen in some other posts, a track suitable for the FO8.

Better like the old Le Mans configuration, with an insane long straigth :)

We need an endurane track. A long track, with no death traps, and a loooooong straigth !

how about bonneville salt flats, and some twisting mountain roads. Also, how about a REALLY tight and tricky track, and some good preset autoX's. theres not much autoX going around, but i know there are some people into it( includieng me). Heres an idea: Have a city/town track thing(like nfsu2 but more like a smaller town with country roads and highways and stuff like that(and dont get me wrong, i dont like nfs either, but i love having open roads to cruise on, and it would b cool to have sumthin like TDU but with realistic physics and real car guys, not just kids). It could get bigger with every update, and there would be rain, snow and all that fun stuff, according to the season and time. I would love a track like this: http://www.naturallightphotography.org/images/nature/down-road-w-trees-&-fog-sm.jpg

A fast track but with no stupidly long straights. A bunch of slight turns and maybe even a rallycross track crossing over the road.

This track does have a few problems....such as if you spin out, you are out of the race. And if people have the trees turned off, then this track would look kind of bland

LFS is about racing, not hot laping on public servers :/Presumably there'd need to be an option to have it rallycross style or with "proper" rally starts.

It'd be kinda interesting to have them with a couple of minute staggered start, but that time would need to scale to fit the amount of time players are willing to wait. Because there's no real danger in the sim version, 30 secs or 1 min might be enough to keep them out of each other's way for the course (unless you get really unlucky).

Reinstalling RBR has ignited my old passion for rally driving, and I'd love to see it in LFS :)

That would be wonderful to have one or two additional track environments featuring narrow, twisty and bumpy real-world tarmac.

Another thing that buggs me is, that all the current

track environments in lfs are more or less very plain and repetetive. Maybe that is just me thinking like this because lfs is merely the only "game" i continously play all the time.

Fact is: i am desperate for some more tracks, much more than after new cars!!
Especially some more touring car circuits would really add up to the sim. For me the only track environment worth racing with standard road cars is fern bay. All other tracks, even the beloved blackwood are far too wide for my liking and lack in variety of flavour concerning their corners.
What makes blackwood more interesting again after a long time owning my S2-license
is that there is actually one corner that doesn't bend down to it's inner side.

I think we need more touring car competition -like tracks, or at least one where is no more space available than for 2 cars and thus giving back the joy when racing the smaller cars.

Well then, enough for now - or i'll glue on to my keyboard even more(...)

What LFS need is some norrow tracks with tricky corners, that put`s the drivers on a test.

Actually that would be a good idea, to have a layout where you could drive over the chicane. But then the straight would be redicilous long, but +1 from me tho.
But it would need to be standar BL track, just without the chicane, and that is a pretty little thing so you couldn`t call it a new track :/

25th October 2007, 16:43
It's the green hell, over 20 kilometers per lap, about 7 minutes in a fast car, depends on the configuration (short Nürburgring or long or none even - Tourist version which you can drive in a road car), it is the most demanding track in the world, the tarmac is horrible in places, it's bumpy, narrow sometimes, basicly the ultimate test for a car's speed in a lap.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5134783972546535075 - for me, the best Nordschleife onboard video EVER.

The Very End
25th October 2007, 16:48
I don`t think that would be any fun. Too long, you would need to be like 100 cars to not drive alone all times lol.
Maybe fun with maxed servers, but it would in the end just be lonely and borring in LFS.

tristancliffe
25th October 2007, 16:51
Too long, too narrow, and not really the ultimate vehicle testing ground at all - 90% of cars that get honed there turn out to be rubbish on the road (or, at least, not as good as hyped).

It's a REALLY good track for doing some laps on in real life. But none of the fear, difficulty or complexity ever comes across in a game/sim. Massively overrated.

Everyone that wants it should go and drive it in real life - it's the only way to get the impression of it.

It would suck in LFS. Just like it sucks in every other game after a couple of laps.

The Very End
25th October 2007, 16:57
Agree.
As I said, too long. Just look on FE black, nobody seems to drive that, because it`s too long. Lol think of this track then, it would take like 4 times longer to drive, there would be no way in hell anyone could mastered all the corners on that track, as some people do on the track in LFS now.
Increas max players to 100, then we can have that track.

Flotch

(about Nordschleife)
It's not too long imho. It might be too long for sprint races and many of the pick-up races people like to drive online. But that's just because many are so lazy they prefer driving thousands of laps at simple (and boring) tracks like AS2. If it is bit longer they are scared omg I can't learn all the corners by heart during one evening. I like long tracks like Fe black and Ky GP.

In long races and leagues it would be good (online). Also offline. I don't care if I drive 5 laps at a long track or 50 at a short one. It's just good if there is no problem with blue flagged drivers. Most of the excitement comes from the fact that you can't master it so easily. It would need little patience to wait for the right moment to try overtake.

Sure it's not so wide as modern tracks and it is bumpy too, but in that way it is not so different from South city. If there was a track editor in LFS and nobody else was making it I would try to do it.

sinbad
25th October 2007, 18:15
I would drive it, np

Me too. I'd settle for an imitation, but I think it would be great to have something like that. Pick up races might only be two laps, but who cares? I get at least a slight satisfaction/pleasure from driving many of LFS's tracks "well", and I can only imagine a long narrow, hilly, bumpy, twisty, "dangerous" track would be that multiplied a few times. Plus, although you might not have race after race of door to door pack racing, the occasions when you do have a good one would be memorable.

You saying something there.
Just to make the track would probally take a hell of a lot time, due to the big size of it. And a other thing, I belive the LFS system wouldn`t handle that big tracks eighter, would be too big to load, or it would load but it probally would take minutes to load.

I'll probably get blown to peices for this but a Dual Carrigeway or Motorway track would be nice, a ring road, that is. Let's say it would be shortened down to about 10 miles, it'd make a good Cruise Server as well as a nice Drag strip thing and a place to test the cars top speed if a proper tuning program replaces LFSTweak.

Or perhaps Carlswood NT from Racer, don't believe there are any tracks with tunnels on from LFS it could be pretty fun. Then again it's no Grand Prix track or anything it's more of a little narrow test track thing.

Hehe, I am not going to oblirate you for telling your opinion :p

Monaco would be pretty darn nice, since that is a town circut and has a tunnel aswell, +1 for tunnels in LFS.

Well, maybe South City wouldn't need a rallycross track, but Aston/Westhill could need / use one :)

If these havn't been mentioned, then Bathurst Australia, it really is an awesome track that goes up around and down a mountain and secondary Phillip Island which is a nice flowing track with a 5th gear right hander at the end of the straight.

+1 for the Blackwood without the chicane. It would really require more setup compromise with the Formula BMW. I would also like some other configurations of Blackwood. Maybe a tilke-style loop/chicane in the middle of the straight. Just kidding, but a new configuration would be really nice.
