I would like to see some V8.

I wouldn't like to see new cars, but I'd like to see the different cars in each class (for example RB4 and XRT) more equal in performance.
Every car should still have it's small advantage, but in a league over all tracks they should be quite equal.
That way we wouldn't always race with a complete field of the same cars, but have a mixture of the cars in one class. The only class where this is already possible is the FZR-class.
Vain
This is very, very hard to do. I would say almost impossible. It pretty much depends on the choice of tracks in the league. Should the tracks be fast with sweeping corners then one car would have the advantage over another car which is good on slow and twisty tracks. There is one way - to have different car bodies (like skins).
You say that we have this in the GTR class. I don't agree... The FXR can't compete with the other two... The only class where I see this is the LX6 / RAC / FZ50 and only on some tracks...

I guess the "What kind of racing would you like to see added to LFS"-thread would do the same as this thread, but, oh well:
- KARTS!! ffs... I'd be happy for S3 if only car added would be go-kart.
- LX8. Not a fan of LX's, but couldn't hurt.
- Rallycars. And also rallystages.
- Formula 1. Why not? would make the FO8 rebundant, tho.
- RBR. RB4s GTR. Would kick ass.

I think the GTR car are pretty balanced for longer races. In sprint races, there is no doubt that the FZR is the fastest, but for longer races, when fuel economy and tire ware come into play, that advantage is gone.
I bet that the same goes for the Turbo class cars (even if I haven't tested it myself) and for other car groups as well.
Problem is that not to many seem to like endurance races.
Back on topic, I'd like to see more GT type cars. I'm such a sucker for FIA-GT, ALMS and Super GT that I almost never can get enough of that kind of racing. So give me GT cars in two classes equal to real lifes GT1 and GT2 (GT500 and GT300) and maybe top it off with some super touring cars like WTCC, and I'll never touch another sim again :)

I said it in another thread, American V8's. More specifically just a Mustang/Camaro V8 hybrid that can compete in the GTR class. 400 some odd horsepower, torque can be their advantage, rpm redline can be their disadvantage (though not sure anymore what v8's rev too, unlike the muscle car era).
I'll second the AC Cobra. This car is a must in any racing sim!!! It is almost everyone's dream car.
This has been said before, late 60's early 70's era American Muscle cars. Mustangs, Camaro's, Baracudas, Trans Ams, Chargers, etc.

I'd get your flame proof trousers on mate, lots of these S3 threads been going on for months now....
The replies are pretty much always the same too - Karts, Trucks, 4x4s, Pickups, Monster Trucks.......

I would definitely like to see some Cobra style cars -- roadsters. Those are very cool V8 cars, and loud :).
Muscle cars would be nice too, steering some big/heavy monsters with loads of power would be fun :D.
-Go-Karts
-Some sort of truck(s)
-Other variants of racing cars (especially LeMans style prototypes or GT cars).
Most of these cars would of course need special tracks to suit them :). Hmm maybe a looooong track for the fast cars, and another city style track for the muscle cars :D

Minivans of course..
Hehehe, that said, it reminds me of a video I had at one time of a race between a minivan, some Mercedes, and an F1 car. Can't remember the track, may have been Nurburgring or how ever you say it. The minivan started 1st and ran around the course. Then they showed the Mercedes driver getting geared up. About half way for the minivan, the Mercedes took off. Cut back to the F1 driver and he's eating a hot dog. They show some more cornering of the minivan and Mercedes, and the F1 guy's sitting on the side of the track reading a magazine. They kept cutting back and forth like this showing the minivan and Mercedes and the F1 guy just messing around. Finally, the F1 car takes off when the Mercedes caught the back of the minivan about 4/5ths around the track. By the 2nd to last corner, the Mercedes took the lead, but lost it on the last turn to F1. Funny vid. I wish I still had it or knew where it was.

that was silverstone in england. the f1 car is a mclaren driven by david coulthard. it's an impressive display of the difference that downforce makes (as well as ridiculous power)

I'd like to see more of the different classes on road and oval racing...
I'd like to see A1GP or Champcar, F1, LMPs, Go-karts (including proper tracks), NASCAR, pickup trucks, Rally cars (including stages), DTM, and anything else the devs come up with.

I think the GTR class in LFS is the most exciting group to run races. I'd like to see some more exotic GTRs like the one above. A GTR on steroids with wider tires, mid engine, and a meaner engine.

I absolutely second that. Either GT1 style of the late 90s, Group C of the 80s or sports prototypes of the 69-71 era. Imagine having a field of 40 cars (okay, we'd need client increase as well) and running a 24h race at Aston GP or Kyoto GP Long with 20 prototypes and 20 GTR cars. Oh, heaven. :D

A Lotus Elise/Exige type car. A big v8 musclecar, a modern american v8 car like the Z06 corvette/Dodge Viper (Yes I know its a v10). Hey american cars aren't bad guys, the Z06 is the second fastest production car to lap the ring.:D

/signed. I'd like to see a race with 5-6 different cars, makes it so much more realistic for my understanding. Adding a Porsche 911 GT2 (or maybe RSR) would be damn cool, also Audi RS6 or RS-based GTR versions would be very nice to see.
Classes are enough in the game, but having more options in each class would make the game way more 'complete'.
/edit: This is more of a S2 wish than S3 to be honest. :)

Further development of the street cars would be nice. An old school V8 with equivalent power to the FZ5 but a healthy two tonnes of iron should make it competitive with the XRT (Plus the drifters would love it)(Let's call it the XR V8). And to contrast it the XF GTX, the 4wd 1800 dohc turbo big brother of the GTi, nimble and quick (Plus the rally fans would love it).
Adding more extreme comparative advantages to cars of the same class will promote lots of overtaking, and allowing different cars an opportunity depending on the track.
Edit; I called it the street class, but really it's the TBO class. That name would have to change if we had a V8, though.
Edit2; I have tried the V8 with tweak on S1. I tried two laps with my XRT on Blackwood, got 1:36.8x on the second lap, and left it at that. After about ten laps with the XR8 (Abbrv, hint on car specs) , I had a best of 1:38.6x. To be fair, the XRT has had a lot more time put into it's setup, and I know I could have got a second faster than that if I learnt the braking points better, I think they're about equal.

Rumour is, that this also counts for roadster-drivers... now, which car do you drive again? ;) j/k
Agree that especially the hummer should not be in LsF. And for the others, I find that the XF Gti is somewhat underpowered, so by introducing cars with similar weight and less bhp probably won't get me excited. Especially because they would only be look-alikes but (with a 99,7321 % chance) not licensed models...
Another thing would be LM-like prototype cars.

Well the original one is no fast car, just full of low-end torque, purely for low-speed offroading.
I would prefer a stadium/competition truck more than anything, those are true offroading machines that have high speed :).

-Super 2000 touring cars: like BMW 320i, Alfa Romeo 156, Seat Leon, etc.
They have like 280 BHP out of 2000ccm engines and use slick tires.
-Faster GT class: Bigger cars with bigger engines (V8, V10, maybe even V12). Like Aston Martin DBR9, Ferrari 550, Saleen S7, etc.
-Prototype class: like ALMS or LeMans prototypes like Audi R8, Bentley EXP Speed 8, BMW V12 LMR, etc.

I wanna see some real (by real I mean over 3.0L displacement) V8, V10, and V12 cars. Enough of these shoddy sport compacts and Turbo 4's. Who cares? There's a reason most servers have the 3 race cars as the only available cars, because they are the most fun to drive. Of course before they make new cars they need to make the sound engine advanced enough to at least compete with 1990's racing games, heck maybe even something from earlier this decade? Who even wants to have any new cars when the ones we have now sound worse than that one Monaco GP racing game from the 80's?

There are already enough low powered roadsters in the game. And the FZ50 is almost identical to a new Porsche 911 Carrera S in every way but the nose and the tail lights. If you want to race an SUV go buy NFS underground 2.

Not yet drag strip truck that has jet engine with afterburners? :D
When we get more realism, most of these ultra fast cars could be too hard to enjoy, it becomes more like GTR, blasting straights with insane speed, then brake mile before corner and do corner like granny and again when straight opens incredible fast accelerating to insane speed and so on.
Anyway I like more from cars that I can actually drive some day, cars that still needs skill, everyone very different to drive, cars that have less than 300hp, 150hp is very good, if it is done properly, with reallike torque curves.
I would like to see cars like Alfa 75 or Volvo 360 that is my car :) Also other hot hatch class cars. Old Celicas are nice too.
Also we have now only one FR and one FF battling against each other, would be nice to have different kind of cars at same level.

- Just a little brainstorming about having tons of cars -
If at some time, the car creation tools are released, we will have lots of cars available. I agree with the ones who say that most of them will be crap, but we will have a lot of "usable" cars. Setting up the cars available in a server will be a problem, so I thought about it:
My idea is to let in the server any car that meets some restrictions, eg, "Any car up to 3L", or "any car up to 250BHP". If we have a lot of options like, weight, displacement, power, engine placement, class (road, race, open wheel) or even year of construction, we could set up a lot of championships without having to select specific cars.
Ok, I know this is hard, and I have to say I'm no big fan of having the car creation tools (I prefer having tons of tracks than tons of cars), but if they are released, I think this is a good way to create car classes for races.
Back to the topic, I would like a RWD competitor for the GTi, something like a BMW 1 Series, and some others.

the thing that got allot of ppl into games like Live4Speed and GranTurismo1&2, was that you could drive actual road cars. Having F1 cars, prototypes, has been over done imho. Sure, having a range of cars is good, but my favourite times playing LFS were when racing gti, gt, gtt, rb4, fxo. I think that if there were more cars in those classes, it would be good fun.
the gti/gt class - rwd 4cyl covertable, rwd 4cyl mid mounted,....
the rb4/fxo class - rwd v6 sedan, rwd supercharged 4cyl ...
how about one of those small cars that are both turbocharged and supercharged - Nissan March Super Turbo - that would be a first to have one of them engines put into a game.......
dont want to take out racing sim competition, (eg, gt legends) but maybe a few classics would be a bad thing imho. always been a fan of the loud petrol guzzling V8's.

I'd quite like to see...
...a 60's Formula 1 Car, no downforce (Grand Prix Legends style), a 70's Formula 1 Car - odd shape experimental spoilers etc - and possibly some european supers... maybe a lamborghini murcielago but better yet.. stuff thats a bit more retro.. an 80's Ferrari GTO or better yet something like a Dino, fast, no grip, proper dirty sliding all over the place business. :)

Well I really like what the devs come up with so just more of anything they give us is great, all their cars look like pieces of alot of real cars so you can pretend that your driving whatever you wish. But as for real cars Id really like to see something 4door like an m5 or an Audi, also something sleek like the new eclipse or RX-8 would be awsome(Im all for the T.B.O class cars) some go-karts for the autocross and the beast in the pic would just rock, I just think its the most evil looking car ever(yeah I saw the Top Gear episode)

sounds like people want to be playing gran turismo instead. clio cup style would be good, they bounch those 2litre beasts around the track all the time, looks like a great laugh and close racing. maybe a kind of vintage class with e-type jag's and possibly v8 vantage style but those old style v8's would be more frustrating then fun when trying to get around a track.....proberly have to go up to R50's to keep the tires blowing out on 1 lap with all the weight and torque :P

I think the game really needs a powerful front engine rear wheel drive street car. ~250HP in the XRT just doesn't cut the mustard. Something light (less than 1200kg) with turbo powered 350-450hp (maybe with the looks inspired by the RX-7 FD?) would be my dream to have in LFS.
Breizh
25th October 2005, 03:52
That's already a bit like the XRT, a mix of supra and rx7.
An large displacement NA would add more variety. A real Ferrari/Lambo/Elise copy, and a muscle car, modern mustang for example, for the LRF class would be fun.
And the LX8.

a track with rock climbing and dirt hills and a truck that can mash :-P maybe a hummer, or a buggy as above mentioned....
a AWD DSM/ AWD scoobie and a rotary rx7/8 would be sweet too
of course a ae86 ;) You are joking right?
The hummer or anything from the Hx line is crap offroad tbfh. Have you not seen the multipal video's of hummer owners taking them offroad, then getting in trouble and having to be pulled out by a chevy, or a ford, or even a Zook?
There is one which I love, where a H2 goes over a rock, no taller then your shoe, on coming down the otherside (in crawl speed) snaps the front left fork like a stick, or the one where a H1 is lining upto a hill, and gets stuck becuase of it's OTT weight.
http://img467.imageshack.us/img467/7531/img0013b5hs.jpg

Again this...
I just want more cars to the GTR-class and maybe a more powerful GTR-prototype class with some 800hp beasts. And some 350hp rwd race cars, maybe some race-tuned cobras with v8 (or 12 litre inline 16 cylinder tripleturbo engine cars with solid rear axle and no wings).
Too bad the current GTR-class cars are not enough powerful if compared to the ferraris and such in FIA GT and too close in power to the DTM cars... But I'm suspecting the devs have thought about it, so who knows? And there is no way of knowing if we even get any new cars before S3. But I'd be surprized if we didn't get any superpowerful cars... :scratchch
But to add dumpers, we need wider tracks :) Also check the chick in the pic :lovies3d:

I would like to see the GTR cars get rally tyres (including the XF and UF GTR's). Also an XR GT GTR would be nice to compete with them, but rear wheel drive. And an RB4 GTR would be nice to compete with the other GTR's on the rally track. Maybe it should have a bigger engine and be normally aspirated in contrast to the FXO GTR. Also a Forumla V10 would be nice. And LM cars... (you guessed it - Le Mans.. :tilt:) Like FZ50 LM with a bigger motor or a turbo on the current one choning out 600-650hp. 2nd gen MR2 and MR2 turbo

id like to see both versions of the Renault 5 GT Turbo :)
this: http://ramtech.free.fr/fete/philiOUF-r5-gtturbo.jpg
and this: http://z-o-g.org/gt4cars/french/renault-5-maxi-turbo-rally-car-85.html
These are not two version of the GT Turbo. The first one is a GT turbo, but the second one is a Renault 5 Turbo, a Maxi 5 Turbo in this case.

-An AWD sedan, such as a Subaru type
-One or two 4door cars (One FF, and the other FR)
-RB4 GTR
-Rally stages, or at least longer rally courses with more fast sections, instead of just small Rally-X.
I'm definately sure these have been already posted, but these are what I'd like to personally see.

well at two tonnes it's not exactly a lightweight sportscar, but from reviews i read, it is suprisingly nimble... even Gordon Murray (designer of McLaren F1) said it...
Jeremy Clarcson said that it handles like a big Lotus Elise
Anyway, my suggestion for cars in S3: LMP1 sportcars, with at least three types of engine (5.0 N/A, 3.6 turbo, 5.5 turbo diesel)
slimjim8201

S3 definitely needs LMP cars. There is so much action there right now...with the new diesel vs. gasoline issue.
Audi R10
Porsche RS Spyder
Courage
Maybe true F1 level cars with a realistic 950+ hp. (Get ready for spinouts but it would be fun...:D )

I honestly think a racetruck could be more interresting then a bus :D
Races with such trucks could be as interresting as the uf1000 races ;)
Total weight: 5000kg
Power output: 800 kW (1050 hp)
Acceleration: 30 to 160 km/h in less than 6 secs.
Maximum speed: 160 km/h (limited by FIA regulation)
Someday we'll have racetrucks racing in LFS! The unique question is... they'll be 160km/h delimited or won't?

WRC RB4 would be great, I think we need a couple of RB4's but isn't their supposed to be a rally pack coming out for LFS? Is so then no need for this.
Trucks definetely and karts would also be great fun.
Also the LEGENDS cars would be good fun, small light and little engines which rev like fewk! :D
For those of you talking about the F1 car racing another 2 differnt cars round the track, It was one of Jeremy Clarksons videos (Apocolypse Clarkson I think) Jaques Villeneuve (sp?) in the BAR F1 car, Colin Mcrae in his '99 (I think) Ford Focus WRC and Jeremy Clarkson in the Ford Cougar. Jaques was "stuck" on a crossword, he could't get a 3 letter word which has 4 leg and barks, what th hell could it be! Sorry for this total pointless info, that would be a fun race if oganised properly, a handi cap race round KY or something.
Maybe RallyX form racing, like the faster 4wd turbo cars going 1st and 10 seconds later the slower 2.0 FWD cars. Would make good racing. :smileypul

Stop suggesting trucks/tractor pulling/dragsters they'll take a lot of time to code seeing as they're more than just a car using a conventional monocoque or carbon tub which is what LFS simulates so far. Diesel engines would also be a load of pointless coding, same goes for methonol/nitrous.
Bikes are a bit more of a sensible suggestion, LFS can do bike engines already but it'd be a lot of work doing bike physics and working a way of input for a limited appeal

1 thing - VTEC
any car, be it big, small, saloon, hatch, fwd, rwd, 4wd, etc...
it doesnt matter what car it is, just implement this engine!
of course, it has to be kept as a NA engine, but tuned so it revs to 11k.
VTEC POWAH!

VTEC is about as pointless as diesel, isn't it? The diesel has full boost at low rpm where vtec has an extra boost at high rpm, right? I think that's what it does in Lotus Elise MK2, tell me if I talk about something totally different. :x
/edit: Mhkay, think I referred to Toyota's VVTi technique. But this seems to be not very far from vtec... ;)

Why pointless? An engine without variable valve timing will need to be bigger, heavier and thirstier, or turbo-charged, to make the same power output as an engine equipped with the technology. I'll be surprised, amazed even, if there is a normally aspirated production car making circa 100bhp per litre that does not have variable valve timing. Not to mention the positive effect it can have on fuel-economy in normal cars.
And diesel is far from pointless too.

4th January 2006, 18:42
Why would you bother simulating a variable valve timing system like VTEC in a racing sim. No one would ever spend any time in the lower revs, just the high rev timing.
Seems like a lot of programming work to get something that isn't used on the track.
I don't even think F1 engines use a variable cam timing system, other than perhaps hydraulic lifters.

In so much as there are no reciprocating parts to damage though excess piston speeds, yes, you can't damage them. But at higher revs the lubricating oil film will break down, wearing the rotors, parts will become out of round due to non-uniform heat, and the combustion process will see to power coming down anyway.
All in all, best not to overrev if you can help it (especially when cold), but live in the knowledge that if you fluff a shift the revs shooting up momentarily won't do much damage.

I also thought how what classes they could be put in
There could be a class with the Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT and Pagani Zonda and Lamborghini Murcielago
Another class with the Porsche 911 Turbo, Ferrari 360 Modena and Dodge Viper GTS ACR and Lamborghini Gallardo
another class would be similair to the past class but with slightly faster cars, such as the Porsche 911 GT3, Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale and Dodge Viper SRT-10
and 2 lone classes, one for an F1 car and one for a Go-Kart
If these cars would be in the game, I'd be constantly grinning everytime I play LFS :D

I think someone might have, if not here then in another thread, and maybe not so loud :D. I don't know if it was received with much enthusiasm tbh, rotors are sort of in the minority well, just about everywhere :) I've never dug the rotary noise or the lack of torque all that much myself, but they are fun (provided you don't have more than one passenger), I'll give you that! But hey, my dream car is a Mini Cooper (old, tiny & UK, not new, huge & German). Not much torque there :)
In the meantime, the XR Turbo is the closest thing to an RX7 (and sort of looks a bit like an older one. A bit). Can't recall if it's 5 or 6 speed though.
Someone, somewhere, suggested a small, low-powered roadster with sharp handling along the lines of a Mazda MX-5 (Miata in some countries), which I think would be a great idea

here's my S3 wishlist:
1) A rotary of some description, non-turbo for me(RWD or else...)
2)The LX-8. No cancelations, I(and a lot of others) want this car real bad.
3)a little roadster with lowish power and awesome handling(it's no good asking for a specific car, that can't really be done)
4) A serious 4x4. No Hummers, but something simmilar a Toyota Landcruiser, or a Landrover Defender(And entirely off-road race tracks to go with them).Turbo diesel. No V8s. Only fools buy V8 4x4s.
5) Some sort of supercar (Big 10 cylinder or more things)
7) 6 and 8 cylinder sedans, simmilar to the Ford Falcon, the Holden Commodore and the dog-ugly Chrysler 300C
8) The racing versions of the above.
9) Go-carts. Just for a laugh.
10) Something with 4 wheel steering.

Nothing else to add. Just realised that there is no game that simulates huge american muscle car racing <really sad :sadbanana> ... apart from Toca 2 and 3, but they seem too arcadish unfortunatelly.

How about some 3-wheelers? Just think about the exciting 30 km/h top speed!

Arrghh! Too...much....power!
No seriosly, a baja buggy would really whip the laamas ass! :D
Edit: Won't you be able to make your own cars in S3?

I hadn't heard that. Is that a rumour, or is that offical?

The official word is maybe, but definatly not until S3 is considered final. Up to that point the tools used to make LFS are in a constant state of change just like LFS. So when S3 is final they may polish and release the tools for the comunity to continue building cars and tracks. There is not a yes or no yet, just a maybe.

I really don't like these
2) The Westfield sEight is the perfect example of why the LX need not have a Rover V8, it will be horrible to drive, just too big for the car. It maybe OK now but the minute chassis stiffness is taken into account it will be horrible to drive. A Morgan +8 or MGB V8 would be much more logical choices of Rover V8 engined cars.
4) Turbo diesel 4x4s? At least have something like the Bower Wildcat which has some high speed offroad ability. The whole we want a Paris-Dakkar sim thing is never going to happen it's just so unfeasable.
5) Seriously I don't want to see these LFS is for much more serious track cars than the average supercar they'll always be slightly disapointing to drive after you've driven some much less powerful cars a lot faster.
9) Gets requested a lot I think trying to simulate 2 stroke engines is going to be too much work, unless Scawen does actually put bikes in as well (though Cooper 500s could be fun :)). The new Papy sim (Fir$t, iLawyer) seems to have a couple of kart tracks listed as 'partners' so my guess is it will have karts in it, the one thing you can be shore of is if Papy do it the physics will be properly sorted.
10) Same as two stroke engines too much work just to get your Skyline also seeing as it's offered by about 3 manufacturers all of whom use a different system it's hardly that easy to find the information to simulate accuratley.
Whoever asked for big V8s historic Trans Ams have never been simulated but various Nascars have including Nascar Legends (1970s Nascars realeased by Papy shortly after GPL but never took off in the same way) and the current Trans Am cars in the N2003 mod and V8 Thunder cars mod for GPL (F5000 chassis with a big block Can Am engine).

Being a Formula 1 fan, I'd love to see one of the last F1 V10 3.0 models.
The bad thing is that these cars have such crazy HP figures (around 950 HP, something like 1500 Hp/ton) that they use TCS in the races... yes they are allowed. So the TCS would have to be programmed and embedded into the car. And with TCS and all they'd be a bitch to drive!
Another thing is that there's very few spots on the tracks in the game where you could really let such a beast go wild. Unless the programmers put an imitation of a real track like Spa Francorchamps or Suzuka... :D
Kinda difficult, but I'd love to see that.

Taking all this "racing competitive cars" into perspective. i belive in adding 2-3 sedan/saloon v6/v8 powered cars... 2 punchy v6's and a lazy v8 with alot of torque. Maybe force the v8 to have a 4 speed auto :scratchch. I think those will be competitive, right?
As for all this 4x4, adding some serious offroad track wont be that bad? Just a simple layout, with a steephill, and hill, some bumps, and alot of gravel, mud, and loose stone surface.
Throwing in 2 4x4's, One a Turbo Diesel, Torque, and a powerful V8's (gas). This wont really be for competition, just for having some good ol' fun offroad. Why not take advantage of the great physics?
I belive this quite acchiveable, since LFS allready simulates, sport hatchbacks, racecars, high performance cars, and the purpose build cars. There's the offroad group left. Woult be awesome to have!? :)

With any luck we'll get F1 cars in LFS around 2008. By then they'll have Control ECU's, so we won't have to put up with traction control anymore, either in the sport or in simulation.

Powerful and heavy sedans (like V8 Supercars) would be a nice addition.
