There are ways to "smooth out" the steering for keyboard control, but it will never be very smooth, best thing to do is get a wheel or analogue control device.

You will probably find that last time you were playing LFS S1 when the KB control was easy was pre patch E (I think this is the one). Since that version the KB control system was changed because their were so many aids and helpers built into the KB code that you did not really control the car at all. All you were doing was telling the computer driver where you wanted to be and it would do its best to get you there the fastest way possible.

Some KB players can still run competitive times so if you are not prepared to try the mouse and aren't prepared to buy a wheel I guess practice will get you there in the end. You can adjust the button rate to smooth out your actions a bit, but digital is digital and will never be a great solution.

Quote "Great skill can overcome many of the drawbacks of human reaction time, but never fully, and not to the standard of the computerised automatic steering that was present in the now obsolete keyboard steering system"

So totally true, but anyway :)
