Hello LFS Racers!

Something that has been requested for a long time by many community members is some official LFS clothes. Due to time constraints and the location of our business, we weren't able to find a suitable way of doing this in the past. However, Victor has come up with a new idea that makes it possible.

Victor's shop :

Victor will run his own business that creates shop websites and runs the whole service, from stock to delivery, for small businesses like ours, that want a truly official shop but don't have the resources to run it themselves. And we will be his first customer! We will order our stock in fairly high numbers, so will be able to sell high quality items at a reasonable price.

What we will sell :

We will start with a line of "official" LFS clothes - a small selection, mainly shirts with a simple design - just a logo and website address - intended to be subtle enough that you can wear it in most places without looking like a walking advertisement. We realise that this doesn't cover all the clothes that people will want to wear. Victor plans to add more items to the stock in future, often as a limited edition run of a special shirt, sometimes new permanent items.

Voting :

Our intention is to stock less than 5 items for the initial run. But it's hard to decide exactly what we should stock as people's taste in shirts varies widely. So we have prepared 10 shirt design sketches for you to vote on. On the actual site there will be photographs of the real thing before you buy. We will use the voting results to help plan which shirts to stock and the numbers of each item to stock. You may vote for more than one shirt - but please vote for shirts you really would buy. If you wouldn't buy any of them, please choose one of the responses at the bottom of the poll. It's secret voting - no-one can see who voted for what, only the number of votes is visible.

Thanks! :)

Not a bad idea at all :)

Although I don't wear logo'd t-shirts I'd definitely consider some kind of zipper or dress shirt with the LFS logo on.

Of all those my favourite is http://www.lfsforum.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=21958&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1167843046 but would be better with a full colour logo and black sleeves with white text. If you ask me. Which you didn't, but meh :)

Yeah I think it'll be a good idea to do some market research and get some quality designs. :)

i'd like the "BLACK_T_COLOUR.jpg (http://www.lfsforum.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=21960&d=1167843060)" in white

Scawen
3rd January 2007, 16:01
Yeah I think it'll be a good idea to do some market research and get some quality designs. :)To be clear : these ones you can vote for here are not intended as "designer" shirts - they are simple plain designs for official shirts. As stated in the post, Victor will do more "design" fun shirts designed by various people at a later date. Most of these ones you can vote for are just high quality white or black shirts with a discreet LFS logo and website address.

What is the difference to a Baseball shirt as opposed to a T-Shirt?

They look the same to me and I like the coloured sleeves on the Baseball shirt.

Also, I hope the supplier is European based.....I got a polo-shirt from work which had been supplied from America, it was nearly as wide as it was tall :x

Christofire
3rd January 2007, 16:05
If there's a discreet logo option as you say, then that'd appeal to me.

For example, I've an Avon Tyres polo shirt that has a discreet logo on the left breast, and a small one on the outside of each arm. It's branded, but doesn't scream "BUY AVON TYRES!"

If there was maybe a full Live For Speed logo on the left breast, a small "LFS" logo on one sleeve and maybe a clever caption on the opposite sleeve ("On the line, Online" ?), that'd go in my shopping basket.

What is the difference to a Baseball shirt as opposed to a T-Shirt?

They look the same to me and I like the coloured sleeves on the Baseball shirt.Yeah, as far as I can tell the baseball shirt is just a T-Shirt with coloured sleeves. Looks quite good to me though I won't be playing baseball. :D

XCNuse
3rd January 2007, 16:06
baseball shirts as you can see are multicolored, the body is a different color from the arms, thats the only difference usually, and cost a few $ more but thats all the difference usually (they do look much better though than just a plain shirt)

dang.. scawen beat me
owell, they still look better than regular shirts

Nice idea

Id buy the first black T-shirt if it had a coloured logo, with no back print. I think small discreet logos are the best.

axus
3rd January 2007, 16:07
I voted for the white baseball shirt with blue sleeves but I'd like to see more coloured clothes. :)

ajp71
3rd January 2007, 16:07
A black polo shirt is very practical, I can see mine ending up meeting not terribly virtual oil so whites a no no. I wouldn't really want to go for a coloured design.

AndroidXP
3rd January 2007, 16:07
I know B/W printing is cheaper, but I really prefer coloured stuff, so my definite votes go to the Black T-Shirt with coloured logo and the blue baseball thingy one (it would be even better with a colour logo). I'd maybe take some of the other stuff too, but I don't really have a preference on those, and voting all would feel cheap :p

Do you have any rough estimates of the prices?

Scawen
3rd January 2007, 16:08
If there was maybe a full Live For Speed logo on the left breast, a small "LFS" logo on one sleeve and maybe a clever caption on the opposite sleeve ("On the line, Online" ?), that'd go in my shopping basket.Yes clever captions (that don't insult other developers) are the sort of thing that Victor will consider when he prepares some specials in future.

nikimere

a hoody would be nice :)
my bedroom can get pretty cold beside the computer as the radiator is crap and on the other side of the room.

XCNuse
3rd January 2007, 16:10
ooh i got it, an LFS sports jacket would be nice!

expensive, maybe this would be 'at a later time' deal, but a black sports jacket, with stripes down the arms (tripple stripe, that looks like this:III
(obviously you can't see the white, but two white stripes with a blue one in center)
then the LFS logo that goes across the front

mrbogeyman
3rd January 2007, 16:10
though I won't be playing baseball. :D

me neither! Its just nicer to have something other than the bog standard black/white. And I can see Black being the overwhelming colour of choice....this being a forum for black wearing Neo look-a-like geeks right? :tilt:

KiDCoDEa
3rd January 2007, 16:12
any shirt with noddy?

Cue-Ball
3rd January 2007, 16:14
I voted "NONE - I will wait for more interesting designs". Though that's not my real answer. The only ones that look interesting to me are the last two (the black two-sided tee and the baseball shirt). Those are the only two that are visually interesting, but I'm not a big fan of black shirts.

I think I would be more inclined to buy a white ring tee with the LFS logo on the back and a small logo on the front. I would also be interested in a long sleeve tee, but only if tall sizes were available. I hope that when you actually do offer these shirts that you have pictures of a real shirt on a model. It's difficult to tell how long these shirts are or what the materials are like from such an artificial picture.

Baseball shirts are not just different colored sleeves. They're also cut different. Normal t-shirts have a seam down the trapezius to the shoulder. Baseball tees have two seams instead, one on the front and one on the back so sometimes they fit a bit differently.

Primoz
3rd January 2007, 16:15
What about a baseball shirt with a coloured logo? I'd prefer that to be honest. And maybe a long sleeveed shirt with a coloured logo too.

Jakg
3rd January 2007, 16:16
you start a place selling the 1st one, and ill open up my wallet :D

herki
3rd January 2007, 16:19
I rather like the idea of getting a shirt, and I like the colored logo on the black shirt. But I didn't vote yet, because there on thing on my mind: How much would it cost approximatly, and how much for shipping and handling to germany? (rough figures should be more than enough)

fujiwara
3rd January 2007, 16:22
It would be nice if we could have t-shirts based on the skin of the car.
But probably this is very personal and the copyright logos need to be stripped off.

Hyperactive
3rd January 2007, 16:22
I'd be interested but it depends how much will it cost to be sent to me in Finland ;)

What about stickers, mouse mats, caps and these (http://www.aviationshop.fi/Kangasmerkit.html) (they are called kangasmerkit in finnish)?

EDIT: voted these:
Black LFS T-Shirt with Coloured Logo
Black LFS Long Sleeved T-Shirt
Black LFS T-Shirt (no collar)

Greboth
3rd January 2007, 16:24
I voted for the black with the coloured logo but i think would look better if the logo was the same as the one on the first shirt (but coloured ofcourse)

The General Lee
3rd January 2007, 16:24
I voted for "None - Waiting for better designs"

No offence. But, I can easily buy a top I can wear anywhere and why pay extra for a little logo that no one can see properly. - I know it will help our lovely devs, but...you know what I mean.

I would pay a t-shirt that had "Live For Speed: Kick Some Asphalt" like Dajmin said, or some other funny/clever caption. With the site address somewhere, and maybe a logo on either sleeves and a small logo on the back, just under the collor.

Ball Bearing Turbo
3rd January 2007, 16:25
I voted for the black polo shirt (nice) and the colored shirt. The Polo shirt in black would be really nice if that logo was in color! The blue / yellow in the LFS logo goes really nice with black, so there really should be more colored logos available.

herki
3rd January 2007, 16:30

Dajmin
3rd January 2007, 16:30
Yay, I'm quite glad someone actually saw my wicked slogan :)

How about this for 5 minutes work? :p
I'd obviously have the website URL down the sleeve like the one in the OP, but that wasn't an option.

Rtsbasic
3rd January 2007, 16:34
Sounds brilliant, I'll buy a couple if you stock them in my *cough* rather large size.

Any ideas on when you hope to have them in stock?

Cue-Ball
3rd January 2007, 16:36
Oh yeah - I'd love to see a baseball cap with the lfs logo on it :DSame here. But it would have to be a color logo with decent stitching. Not monochrome and not silkscreened.

+1

JJ72
3rd January 2007, 16:44
I will suggested colored logo to go with the white/black shirts, cos if it's purely two toned then it's really toooo plain. the URL on the sleeve needs to be refined, like a finer font and adjustment on the spacing, height of the type etc, now it's too much like a 5 minute job.

I am all for descreet design, because they garuntee safe income for a start, however currently the general level of flare is a bit too low even for nerdy sim racing fashion victims.

That's awesome. If you made those with a longer sleeve, I'd do a Steeve Jobs, buy 9000 of those and throw them away after use each day. :smileypul

nice idea :) will the logos etc be embroided or printed only? embroided lasts longer and looks better ;)

JJ72
3rd January 2007, 16:46
I would like to see the word "Scavier" being used on the design as well, cos it's really kind of a insider trivia for LFSers, Since the shirts are not really produced for promotional purpose, but rather a individual expression of our love of the sim, it would kind of fit.

AndroidXP
3rd January 2007, 16:47
now it's too much like a 5 minute job.Heh, probably because they are 5 minute jobs :D

Like Scawen said, they're really quick drafts, probably to just get the general trend of what is liked more and what less.

Victor
3rd January 2007, 16:48
nice idea :) will the logos etc be embroided or printed ?

Items will be screenprinted except for things like a polo or a cap, which would have embroided logo / text

Future items could have both, like designer shirts that you buy in normal stores. But again, this thread is just for a basic line up. Other designs will come later.

items will be shipped from .NL, so for you it'll be pretty cheap.

We prefer not to discuss prices (yet) here, because they would vary a lot depending on type of shirt / print / used colours / colour of shirt / etc.
Basically we will do our very best to keep prices pretty low. Lower than the average merchandise shop. But prices will not be SUPER cheap because we want to sell you high quality products.

Nice idea! I guess I would go for something discreet too.

Idea for the future: There are more and more "official" national communities - what about cooperating with them to make a small amount of shirts with i.e. www.liveforspeed.se underneath the LFS logo? Then you might be able to sell some more...

I'm still considering 'Onder rembours' for dutch (and belgian?) sales. Good chance it will be a payment option. If not right from the start, then a bit later.

(Intel, McGill Racing, Raceabout and BMW among those, of course.)

Hahaha..... But honestly, I would like a black tee shirt with color Live For Speed logo. Sounds good! A live for speed patch might be nice if someone wants to affix it to their denim/leather/insert material here jacket. Just something to think about.

Also there could be colored/black logo on the back.

Very good idea, go for it Victor :)
I would buy mainly black T shirt and Polo shirt, maybe a wite one too..
But i have a suggestion on the black one with color Logo. It would be better that it is just the logo in the front, without the www, or something, just, plain logo, and at the back of the shirt, to says: "YOU have to do the driving.."
That's the coolest description of the LFS, and it is an official one, it's on the LFS website :)
Some friends of mine also dig that, because i have it in my E mail sig.. "Live For Speed - YOU have to do the driving.."

PS. And i why is that old Logo being used, that with Blue "speed" instead of the official one?

I cannot believe it... I've been thinking of this for a while now... have looked at shops who could make t-shirts and came up with a few ideas. Hadn't proposed anything to Scavier, but it seems I'm a bit too late :P

I voted that I would wait for more interesting designs, because there wasn't an "I think the LFS logo is crap" option. I don't particularly like the phrase "Live for Speed" either, now I come to think about it...

That said, the baseball jersey is the most appealing. Esp. if it had 3/4 length sleeves.

Hey, this is really cool. Me? I'm strictly a t-shirt and jeans or t-shirt and shorts kind of guy. It's t-shirt and jeans to work, t-shirt and jeans to play, t-shirt and jeans even to church! So, I voted both the black and white t-shirts with no collar.

i'd like a black hooded sweat shirt with colored logo :)

Frankmd
4th January 2007, 08:08
I think whether or not I will buy a shirt depends 90% on the quality of the shirt, rather then the colors of the shirt. The material, stiches and most of all the 'shape' of it is far more imporant. I always try a shirt on in the shop, even if it only costs 10 euro. A shirt in nice colors with too long or too short sleeves looks worse then a plain black shirt that fits right.
I also agree that emboidered logos are really a must. I have quite some experience with shirts with custom logo's that were printed on, and they always failed. Every time they had to be sent back to have them reprinted.

So quality rather then looks will do it for me :)

I hope I don't miss the start of Victors new shop.
I like the Long-Sleeves with website and the T-Shirt with colored logo. I'm sure they will look much better in reality then in this first example. I also hope, price won't beat quality. I surly like to pay a little more for getting high quality prints and shirts.

What about the race-socks which where available a while ago?

loopingz
4th January 2007, 11:29
I voted for mainly white ones, because I have allready a lot of black rockin' tshirt !
If you do the long sleeve with the web site on it put the logo not upside down (it is correct on the pics : when your arms are "driving" the text should be in correct position, it is a common error).
Anyway, I like most of not so classic ones. Baseball is cool, the polos (especially the white) are cool too, but may be eve, better with a coloured logo.
May a blue and yellow baseball would suit to the lfs style (and swedish will love it !)...

I'm still considering 'Onder rembours' for dutch (and belgian?) sales. Good chance it will be a payment option. If not right from the start, then a bit later.

Are you considering "iDeal" for Dutch customers? Since this is introduced I only buy items from webshops which use iDeal. I also looked in implementation and it's very easy and fast.

I worked at a webshop, the same concept you are starting. You can contact me if you have any questions.

Should we wait till LFS S2 goes final before we worry about merchandising?

I think a better (but less profitable) option would be for Victor's shop just to sell embroidered patches that we could buy and sew onto what ever shirt cap etc we want.

This saves all the hassle of keeping stock of various size and styles of shirts etc and so much cheaper to distribute worldwide?

and I can buy t-shirts and polos in colours I want far cheaper than Victor can and Living in OZ I would have the item same day not wait on postman etc for weeks

Just my thoughts

It's an interesting idea but i hope that you will use "elasticized" type of shirts.
I have seen lot of times shirts from games and seemed quite all a bit too much nerdy because stayed too wide on people wearing these.

It have to be cool if you want them to be used, imho.

P.S: i know that you now are making plain simple shirts, but imho shirt that would be very nice should be based (and designed on the entire surface) from some of these nice LFS race screenshots edited on photoshop like the one in the forum section, the ones that capture better the idea of speed :)
