View Full Version : Setting flexible refresh rates for HDTV output

I have a PC which is connected via a Radeon X700 to a Panasonic CRT HDTV. For this connection to work I need to configure the output to very specific resolution (1920x1080) and refresh rate (50 Hz interlaced ie. PAL).

I use a piece of software called powerstrip to set this refresh rate (as the default HDTV timings provided by the ATI drivers are only for NTSC 60Hz).

I have previously used LFS on my system some time ago successfully. I've just downloaded the latest version tonight, and have found that the resolution/refresh rate configuration is different (I think).

So, as soon as I start LFS now, my TV will lose sync, as it appears that the refresh rate is being set to that configured (there is no option in the LFS screen configuration for 25Hz, so I've tried all other options and colour depths to no avail). Ideally I would like LFS to just leave the refesh rate and resolution as it was when started.

Is there any way to configure the screen settings so that LFS doesn't attempt to change the resolution/refresh rate?

Something that 'might' work...

In the LFS folder, theres the file cfg.txt.

I have the line 'Screen Info 0 85 1280 1024' for 1280x1024 @ 85hz, maybe try changing yours to '50 1920 1080' will work. I have no idea what the first '0' is for.

Hope this helps :)

That might work..
What i wanted to say, "0" is like "On" for that line and "1" is "Off".
Or is it other way around? hm....
I need some sleep badly

Thanks for the input. I tried tinkering with the screen resolution settings in the configuration file, to no avail. The timing required to sync to a HDTV is very specific, and I think the high level specification of refresh in the config file is not quite enough to get it right.

I've since found the window mode configuration in that file. If I set that to true then it doesn't attempt to change the screen resolution, so no sync problems.

The only problem I have now is that when it launches in this mode, it does not run maximised, it leaves a small gap around the window. What would be nicer is to have it automatically run windowed and maximised. I tried launching with a shortcut with maximised set, but all that it does in that case is open the same size, but anchored to the top left of the screen rather than centred.

Any ideas on how to get windowed mode to start maximised?

Thanks.
