You know, many retail games DO cost less in poorer countries...

Why is the game sold in Singapore more expensive is because we have lots of tax...

one of them is GST (Goods and Service Tax)

GST is now 7% in SIngapore which makes us gamers' life hard!

the 7% of the price of the item is added to the price of the item!!!

Though there are retail games like those old games cost below SGD$20!:D

yes, and those games are either old or pirated - LFS is neither

I still object to taxing downloads. There is no physical product, so it doesn't cost anything to import, it doesn't take up any physical space on a delivery vehicle and the bandwidth costs are covered by your internet charges.

What the hell are they taxing? Virtual 1's and 0's? It's the most utterly stupid thing I've ever heard of, but you try telling that to your local MP. The response you get is "mumble mumble mumble I was in the war mumble mumble internet mumble mumble copyright mumble mumble of course I was very very drunk..."

Grrr.

In the UK we're taxed on almost everything. I think the one exception is the air we breathe :)

We're taxed on earnings (@10%/22%/40% depending on earnings) and then again on any purchases (@17.5%). And our import tax is also crazy, which is why cars (for example) cost roughly 30% more in the UK than other European countries (resource (http://www.which.co.uk/reports_and_campaigns/cars/reports/buying_and_selling/Car_price_rip_off_news_article_557_94917.jsp)). It's nuts.

But this is getting off-topic, so let's get back :)

You should buy LFS, because it has the most amazing multiplayer of any driving game I know. And unlike most other games, this one will be in development for a while yet, so you won't need to buy a new game in 6 months time :)

Technically purchases made out of our state on the net are taxed in the US, but they're not taxed when you buy it. The IRS expects you to add up all the purchases you've made from out of state and tax yourself when tax time comes, not sure how many people actually do that though. :p
