Check your drivers, makes sure the NVIDIA ones are uninstalled.

i have 512 of ram. and yes my nvidia drivers are uninstalled!
my friend got a x800gt and got 92fps so there must be something wrong with mine 15 fps. :(

Torn off simple cars in the options. You get low fps in combination with hardware vertex shading.

How about the via-4-in-1 drivers, guys? Might that solve it for him? .. that's related to ATi stuff, right?
Edit: how does the other games run?

Those are Via drivers. But of course this can be a driver problem. :)

very odd, your system should be fine. What screen res you running? I presume you've tried all the in-game graphics quality options?

I'm running a P4 2.5 GHz with ONBOARD 8 MB graphics and 512 MB Ram. I am also running 15 FPS with incar view.
So, I'd say you have a problem with your GFX Card or it is our processor speeds. Question, what operating system are you running? I'm using Win98SE and if I multitask while in a server on LFS, ie I shift-F4 and jump in a browser to look something up, LFS locks up for me. It is a directX (9.0c) error. After end tasking LFS and a directX file, I can reopen LFS and double my frame rate. But I am only running onboard graphics, so I'd say you have a driver problem or something with your graphics.

hi, i tried the simple car option again but still in the 14-18 fps range. My screen resolution is 1024x768.. but i tried lower resolution as well and it didn't help. i effectivelly tried all graphic option combination wasting lots of time but the problem is still there. what is the "via-4-in-1 drivers"? to answer your questions the other games are running fine such like hl2 and grand prix 4.
i'm using windows xp pro as OS.

Maybe a good idea is to delete your gfx.cfg file in the root of your LFS directory, I had problems going from a FX5200 to a FX5400 and doing this solved my problems.

I feel like this is going round in circles a bit...did you make sure your old drivers were totally uninstalled before you put the new card in?

do you have a framerate problem with other games?

Reboot to "safe mode", F8 I think if you can in XP to check for old drivers. Go to your device manager and check for installed video drivers there. If there are any, then uninstall them now in safe mode in the device manager, then reboot and reinstall.
Sorry if this is how you already did this. But booting in "safe mode" will show any and all drivers installed, not just the current ones the system is using.

Museum peice? Er, its only 3 years old.
I guess YOU are an ancient museum peice, with you being 40 years old and all.. ;)
Im running S2 on a amd 2200+ and get about 40 fps, so i dont think its his pc at all, just a conflict somewhere.

are you running AA or AF? maybe if these are too high then the card just cant take it....
my system is slightly worse than yours with a7n8x board, 2ghz athlon xp and radeon 9800pro .. i run the game at 4aa and 8af... so your card should whoop mine.......
think a fresh windows reinstall is always good once in a while... i do it twice a year to get rid of any files other programs left behind.....
also are you having problems with any other games?

Search some Papyrus NR2003 forums for the program EndItAll. It will give you a list of everything running in the background of Windows. You can lock stuff you don't want to close and clicking end in the program will close everything that isn't locked. Great program if you don't clean up all the stupid autorun stuff in windows. Me, the only thing I have running is explorer, LFS, LSFPitspotter, and my dialup. Man I love Win98SE, XP sucks.

But the CPU power will be far more significant than the vid card - I had an old system like yours, now upgraded to a 3.2 CPU, my vid card is actually worse than yours and frame rate went from about 20 to 60 now.

If your CPU is capable of HyperThreading, try disabling it in the BIOS and see if it makes any difference. Also, are those "5 cars" AI drivers or online? If you get better fps online then it's clearly your cpu. Pentiums seem to really suck at LFS.

when i had a P4 2.0 and a geforce4mx440... i upgraded to a 6600Gt and got exactly no FPS benefit.. the old mx440 isn't as bad as you think in LFS.
i then upgraded to a p4 3.2 and instantly got a massive improvement..
end result, even if you only have 1 bottleneck in the system it will drag down your performance.

thanks!Maybe your Hardware Vertex Shading option is set to "OFF" or "NO" because of your old card.
Have a look in your card_cfg.txt file and see if the "Use HVS" oprion is 0 or 1.
Sorry if this was mentioned already, i haven't studied the whole thread.

AA and AF should not lower your FPS with a X800 Graphic Card.
I have a 3000+ AMD, 1 Gig Ram, Ati X800Pro. I played without AA and AF because i didn't want to change it all the time for other games. But as I recognized that I don't play anything else than LfS I set AA to 4x and AF to 8x. The FPS didn't change. FPS are still at 60-70 when racing with 20 other cars.
AA and AF is a graphic-card feature and doesn't need CPU-Speed. (Correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm 19 years younger than my Dad, so I'm not that old.
Considering the hike in performance with every new CPU and his being 4 generations out of date...:tilt:

the problem there is your cpu. you can upgrade it or try to change gfx options in lfs, specially LOD sliders.

The problem isn't his cpu since i have the exact same one with the same amount of ram and only a 9600pro and i get a good framerate with high graphics. As someone said though, are you talking about 5 AIs? If so then ye AIs make LFS run really slow you should race online :p.

Is your cpu a true P4 or a crappy celeron?
If its a celeron that is your issue. As a test to see if you gfx card or cpu is the issue try the following.
1) Run at a low resolution and note the frame rate.
2) Push the resolution and AA/AF up loads and note the frame rate.
If both give the same results its your CPU otherwise its a gfx card issue.

Seems like a strange problem. If the problem is driver related you should do this:
1. http://www.drivercleaner.net/download.php?site=1&file=DCProSetup_12.zip Driver cleanr. Remove all ATI and nVidia drivers.
2. Redownload the latest driver:
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/5-8_xp-2k_dd_cp_wdm_25203.exe Old control panel
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/5-8_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_25203.exe New control panel (requires .NET)
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/5-8_xp-2k_dd_25203.exe Just the drivers nothing else
3. Install the drivers
Incase it isnt the drivers it is very possible it is the CPU. As someone mentioned it could be that something is using much of the cpu power in the background. Try running ad-aware which is a spyware/adware removal program. http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
Also what Scawen said is a very promising lead.

Make sure your chipset, CPU, and AGP (or PCI-E) drivers on your Mobo disk are installed. Make sure you card isn't overheating, etc. Maybe a fresh windows install could solve the problem.

I'm actually kinda doubting it's his CPU, I have a P4 2.8 GHz, 1024MB RAM, and a Radeon 9550 256MB. I've got my framerate limited to 100FPS, and I'm pretty much always running against the FPS limiter, even with a full A.I. grid at the start, I still get 45-50 FPS. This sounds like a stupid solution, but make sure that hardware acceleration is turned to full in your display settings, a friend of mine had something like that, he and I tried all the "technical" solutions before going, "duh, hardware acceleration is off." Hope that helps, over and out.

Hè, this remembers me of something! Sound! Only use headphones and when my soundcard died a year ago I replaced it with a cheap 10 euro thing. This thing put a heavy load on my CPU! Just what we are talking about. Could not imagine why al those new games were so slow till I replaced the soundcard with a better one.

Check out your PSU. I've used a generic psu for a while. Now I bought an Enermax PSU and my fps are way better, twice better.

It's strange, i have exactly the same problem.
Alone, i have 145fps, then when i add IA or i play online with more some other cars, it drops down to 30~40fps.
Skytrill did you fix it?
I'll try Scaven tip tonight.

I re-install XP, but the problem remains.
I did some tweaks, now i have 160fps in hotlap and ~50fps with fullgrid.
My system: MB ASRock AX8-M, Athlon 64 3000+@1.9Ghz, 1Go Corsair PC4400, Radeon X800Pro. Maybe my problem is coming from the motherboard, not an nforce one. I don't think it's the cpu or the gpu.
As i have a french version of LFS S2, and i was watching all menus but i didn't see where is 'car simple' option, could someone help me?
