Whats an SiG? If you mean signitures, then we already have 'em (see below).

I guess he wants images, but this will:
1. increase the loading times dramatically
2. increase the traffic signifficantly and slow down the server
3. make the pages much longer, with less "information per square inch" :D
But it would look cool ;)
That makes 1:3

Its got style: user-friendliness and easily accessible information. I love it to be honest, the fact that it isnt flashy doesn't bother me at all. Just my 2c

No offence, but personally I hate sig images. They, unlike normal amounts of sig text, totally destroy the reading flow, so: :thumbsdow
But if there was an extra user option to not disable the whole sig but just the sig images, I'd be ok with it.

If they turn on signature images I'll be turning them right off again in user preferences.

people can end up abusing the system to and introducing animated gifs etc with massive file sizes.
signature images is the "ricer mentality" of the internet :D

Unlike Avatars ;)
But I too think that graphical sigs are mostly disturning. You could aways use some decent ASCII art ;)

As soon as any image begins to change itself, it's crap
I can only quote myself (LOL :D): "Your website is not the Times Square." :tilt:

how does it makes the pages longer?
you can already have sigs, like yours, or look at tristan's, which is even longer than a pic would be.
It's a all matter of limitations, a 80px sig e.g. wouldn't increase the page length (compared to the text sigs), which have no limit afaik.
And a kb limit would not increase the traffic and loading times "signifficantly" or "dramatically".
Just like the avatars. And if you are really on a 56k modem, you can still disable the signatures.

I don't want images. Yes I have a largeish sig, but it's not irritating really. And it takes up no more room on short posts than the sidebar would. But picture sigs are VERY annoying at all the other forums I visit now and then. If we DO have to to have them, I bet for an option to turn off the images independently of the text.

I think the problem is when u get the gifs and the animation in these huge sigs thats where the problems are found.Thats where it gets irritatin.

I like the forum just the way it is - personally, I've disabled both signatures and avatars from cluttering my screen.

i like to keep avatars because they usually tell you something about the person and some can be quite cool.. as for sigs i aint a big fan of them either. They take up too much space and make pages take ages to load when on slow connections.. some are quite cool though :D

I would guess that more than 90% of all users here have a signasture height which is lower than 80px.

it was just an example, then take a normal banner size, like at the top of the page, approx the same height as your sig.

you obviously realise those images would have to be served on ones own webspace like in every other forum out there dont you ?

Not necessarily...people upload them onto RSC er, LFSB then put them in their sig...thats how it usually works unfortunatly

Well ermm.... slows down their server/host, not this one :really:

Not necessarily. Try hotlinking an attachment from a forum with [IMG] tags. Most of the time it doesn't work... if it does, the administrators will see that you take approximately 30kb~ every minute and prevent it :P.
And I don't think we should allow sigs, it's fine without... and much nicer for proper reading without them.
You might as well show what you've made.... surely you could use them on another forum or something ;).

I'm just glad that we don't have signatures or LOL SiGs with images.. It disturbs so damn much and I really hate looking at it. This should definately not turn into another OMFG! PWNED! Cs forum...

imo.. i think the avatar says enough of someone :p
dont need those fancy ones that say how many times someone has clicked their mouse button.. or their system specs every second
much less those huge pictures.. plus an avatar :p

animated sigs are pretty annoying. As long as the sig picture is small its ok with me :)

16th September 2005, 23:43
Im not bothered either way.
Aslong as the image is smallish, then they are fine with me - 400x60 is a good image signature size, about the size of two lines of text... Not too small, but not too big either.

It depends really, If all the sig pictures had to be the exact same size and no animated gifs then I think it would work. For those that don't want it, just turn it off in your Control panel.

I think we have enough style without lots of wanna-be-net-artist pictures, sorry but don't like them, you have the avatar for showing an image that represents you, do you want another 600x200 sapce for showing us your PC specs with a pimped Skyline background? No thanks :)
PD: I love the Skyline :rolleyes2, and I cannot understand what some ppl do to them :pillepall
