Hi fellas.
Im not new to online gaming and run LAN gaming events so I know a little about the following but this one has me confused.
I have my main pc with my LFS installed (and unlocked to SP2) and I thought I could try installing the game in demo mode on my other pc so I could host ONLINE and try connecting to it via the net. The server is found without a problem and appears in the server listing, however I get the error "HOST HAS A DIFFERENT GAME CODE" which is very odd because its the same files i used to install on my main game. Im hosting cars and tracks in the demo all ok, so its a bit odd..
Any ideas fellas?

I also wanted to mention that I can connect to other online games on both pc's without any issues...

I'm not sure if you can use the full S2 game to host a Demo server (primarily as i've never tried it), but if you want to run a server, can I suggest trying the dedicated server?

You can pick if you want your server to run in Demo, S1 or S2 mode. Though if it's not a dedi you'll need to have paid for the latter two options.
If the other PC has only demo functionality, then you'll only be able to join in demo mode. You are allowed to unlock a second PC (with the same license) on your network for home LANing, I would suggest doing that.

Host has a different game code means either :
1) Host is in S2 mode and guest is in DEMO mode
or :
2) Host is in DEMO mode and guest is in S2 mode

But hang on....
If the host (dedicated or not - shouldnt matter) on my other PC is running in demo mode (Demo tracks and cars as its a demo unlocked game) it should be able to host for unlocked players (ie SP1 or SP2) shouldnt it?
However if this isnt the case, I find it kind of odd. So basically I have to re-lock my game on my main pc if I want to host on my other pc so my mates (who only have the demo) and I can join in?

No, you don't have to re-lock it.
You just need to select "Demo" mode on the multiplayer screen, before you try to connect.

Thanks fellas. I think im getting close...
But now I have another problem...
I now get the "CLIENTCONNECT:CONNECT FAILED" message...
I have all the desired ports on my router open and can still see the server on the LFS desktop server list :S

Can you connect using the local IP address?
Sometimes people can connect from outside but you can't connect to your own internet IP address - that depends on which router you have.
So... if you can connect to your internet game using the local network IP address (click on join specific game... local game) or whatever - then the problem is solved.

Well I am a little baffled but I think your right about internal connections. I seem to remember something about this with IL2.
I can connect to it if I try to connect via LAN (local IP address) but the external IP doesnt want to know. Prob cos its via the gateway which both PC's share.
IF you want to test it with me feel free (server name is "IXL TEST")
It will be up for 10 mins from this post.
