Just hit the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard (sometimes also labeled as "PrtSc". It's located on the right of function key F12 if you have a standard keyboard layout.

Pressing this button places the current screen on the clipboard. If you exit (or alt tab) the game you can paste the image in Paint or another image editing application.

A more flexible way wich doesn't require you to switch to Windows to paste the image is to use screen capture software. Just google on it. There's a surprising amount of software that can do this for you...

File is FSScreen (freeware). It is a screenshot utility that automatically saves the .bmp file on your harddrive instead of the clipboard. Take screenshots as fast as you can hit the "print screen" key. Then use any graphics program to convert it to .jpg or modify if you'd like. Awesome little utility.

Yep I can vouch for FSScreen but you DO need to edit the BMP files it creates though which are very large in size and unsuitable to post in the forum. As for editing pics I've used Photoshop since v3 and it is easily the best available, though expensive to buy and a very steep learning curve.

Your best bet would be to get hold of FRAPS (the demo version is free but it puts a logo on your pics). FRAPS will not only record screenshots in JPG format for you but will also record movies while you play your games :) Used in conjunction with something like Adobe Premiere to edit the footage and then Saurenson Squeeze to get the filesize down you can make movies to put online ;)

FWIW, for a screenshot program, I have heard that Fraps is really lousy. It was here that I've heard it. There are at least two other threads here over the years started about taking screenshots. I know I've posted about fsscreen in at least two. Quite a few other programs suggested as well.

Here we go:
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=13815 (I suggested fsscreen)
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=8891 (I posted fsscreen in an attachment here)
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=6320 (quite a few SS programs suggested in this one)

Fraps does the job well. You can set it to save JPG's so you don't need to load them up in Photoshop and convert them, I'm sure you can specify the compression level too?...

FSScreen IS good but as it dumps a BMP file you have to convert it before posting anywhere - also a load of BMP files takes up a LARGE amount of space (a single 1024x768 24-bit BMP file takes up two and a quarter megabytes).

I thought FRAPS was for capturing video not screenshots

Fraps is for capturing video, but it does do screenshots. I have just heard that the screenshots are really crappy in quality compared to other utilities or capturing bmp's and converting to jpeg yourself where you control the quality yourself.

It isn't crappy, I hate when rumours start and people carry on saying that without trying it out. FRAPS is a great prog for creating JPG's from your games.

I see that Live for Speed has a shots folder. Is not this for native screenshots taken by the game? If so, what is the command? It should be in the LFS Manual Wiki or the control screen since those are the places I looked first for an answer.

In the mean time I've added a 'keys (http://en.lfsmanual.net/wiki/Keys)' page to the wiki. It's only a quick copy-paste of the keys.pdf with some basic formatting, and I've added CTRL-S to it too.

Hopefully some people can check/edit/improve it now that I've started it ;) :)

Oh so Ctrl+S is the command. I thought that the Shots folder is there useless. I have always been using Print Screen for a long time now... As some players here say, there is always new functions to be discovered in LFS. Hey tristan, this is the first time i seen you posting... SO, greetings!:D

That's the first time you've seen tristan in a thread? Seems like he's everywhere :p

I am watching you.

Oh damn, did I say that out loud? It was meant to be a deep, thundering, disembodied voice in your head. Must sort that out, it'll get embarassing otherwise.

With regards the wiki folks - it only works if we (the community) keep it updated and free of errors. If you learn something new that isn't in it, add it. All licenced players can edit it (and edits can be tracked, so don't be silly now), so there are no excuses...

Thanks I knew there had to be a command for it. I added my share to the wiki.
