I may go on Sunday if I have time, Renault have some very nice cars there :)
My mate (sidepants if any of you have raced him :) ) is a Renault nut.
It is a free event, but you had to apply for tickets online I think.
It`ll be worth it just to see an F1 car going round Donny :trampolin

Great day yesterday, no video or pics unfortunately. The Formula Renault cars were cool, so similar to the fxr :) But the Renault World Series cars were even better, so fast, so loud, and 30 odd of them on the grid. Made me think perhaps we need an intermediate single seater in LFS, its quite a big step from the fxr to the fv8. The WS cars are straight sixes...:scratchch
Lots of goodies in the paddocks including a world of 5 turbos and Alpines which we drooled near (but not on), and half a dozen DeLoreans! Never seen them in real life and boy are they cool.
For a free days motorsport I cant complain, it didnt even rain :D

Anyone going this year? Its next weekend.
Tickets were free again but I think its too late to get them now.
We got loads :D We will possibly have some spare if anyone is interested.

Man.. I wish I lived near Donnington (or that plane tickets were free too!) The Renault Megane Trophy cars look awesome imho; and look to provide good racing. Also, the F Renault 3.5 cars are quite possibly the best looking modern open wheel cars on the planet.

I'm going with my family for both days, staying at a Travel Inn or something near it :thumb:
If the weather holds up it'll be a great weekend. If not, it'll still be a great weekend, just a slightly wet great weekend :D

ive got 2 tickets spare if anyone wants them then pm me, ill even pay the postage but no fancy malarky jus standard royal mail, if i did it 2mo then they'd be there in good time.
oh yea and i am going with my mate, we're driving down from edinburgh! with the tickets being free it should only cost us 30buck each to get there, which is less than the BTCC was this weekend at Knockhill and thats our local track!

I think that a World Series Renault would be very similar to the FO8. The FO8 really is a doddle to drive one you've got the hang of throttle control. I think a small sports racer (Radical SR8 like) would be a better addition.

I apologise, Ill make sure to post when the tickets come up for next years event.

I agree! Id love to see any Radical in LFS. We probably have enough single seaters for the moment.

I'm going as Media on Sunday! Yay :D Should be a good weekend. Lots and lots going on.....looking forward to gettting up close and personal with the Renault F1 car ;) If you want someone to cheer for in the Formula Renault look out for my mate Alex Morgan. Yeah that's right. Apparently she 'won' the 'So You Want To Be an F1 Driver' thing. Kind of says it all when it comes to the motivation behind the whole program! Still...I shoudn't really bad mouth her, as I expect I'll be meeting her LOL.

She never won it (AFAIK), but she was in it for sure.
I'm pretty sure she got to the latter stages but she didn't win IIRC.
She seems a bit out of her depth in FRenault 2.0, she hasn't done a lot of Single Seater racing (Although I think she was alright in karts...)

I just got back from Donington. Excellent weekend, especially for a freebie - though I still managed to spend £150 including fuel to get there, and food while there. Great time though!
I took 310 photos over two days.. thank god for digital cameras! I've attached a few crops :)

I went down for the weekend, very nice weekend. The F1 car stole the show for me, but the meganes were definately produced the best racing IMO.
SamH
10th September 2006, 23:33
Yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed the F1 car. What a sound that car makes. I wish he'd ditched TC and lit up the tyres, though.
The Meganes were fabulous racing. I really did enjoy those - consistently exciting and a wonderful sound, but the battle for first on Sunday's Clio race was absolutely the most thrilling battle of the weekend for me. :thumb:

I went both days too. The World Series race on Saturday was the highlight for me, I just really enjoyed that race.
I got sixth place on the crappy fastlap challenge, running F12002!
And damn it was hot on Sunday.

I went aswell...
Loved it.
F1 car was brilliant, The megane race on Sunday was the best from me.
I liked the world series cars were good aswell...what a noise.
I was stood by Starkeys bridge. anyone near me?
I got some pics, I'll upload them when I can be bothered.
I heard the commentator say there was someone from Eurosport there, anyone know if it was shown on Eurosport live?
Leifde
11th September 2006, 16:59
Starkey's Bridge... was that just after the old hairpin? I was by the old hairpin pretty much all day Sunday :)
The General Lee
11th September 2006, 17:09
Yea, thats right.
Brilliant place to stand, because you can see the cars coming down the hill, nearly all collide at the old hairpin, then up the hill into McLeans corner.
Did you see the orange Megane run wide at the old hairpin, then nearly get rammed in the back...Heart was in my mouth. and what was wrong with the green megane trailing right at the back going really slowly that everyone sarcasticly clapped at the end :S Did you see the clio get a whack from behind, I didnt see it happen, but I saw the car in the pits afterwards.
Sorry about all the questions...I just read it back to myself :pillepall

11th September 2006, 17:59
A thouroughly enjoyable weekend that! On the Saturday I was sat near Starkey's bridge, up on the hill, and on the Sunday I was right at the front next to Foggy's. Some fantastic action to be had on both days, saw a lot of people go off at the Old Hairpin, especially the Meganes and the Formula Renault cars. I think the spot that I was at on Sunday was better though, saw a lot of overtaking, especially in the Clio Cup race. That battle was fantastic!
The F1 car was brilliant, but I wish that a couple of things would have happened. First, I wish the bloody commentator wouldn't have said "Johnathon Cochet!" about 10,000 times, and I also wish the car was completely floored, which I have the feeling it wasn't.
PS: Did anyone else get into an argument about whether the Formula Renault cars look like FOX's? I did with SamH, and came to the conclusion that they're remarkably similar, but not exactly alike. The World Series cars are definitely F08's though, pretty much the same power, but they only have 6 cylinders.
Leifde
11th September 2006, 18:32
Formula Renaults are pretty much FOXs power-wise, same with the WSBR and the FO8 but there's lots of differences in the body.
@Niall - Yeah, I saw the Megane nearly get whacked, I wasn't so sure 3 cars would fit where he/she was sat :schwitz:Did you see the WSBR car go flying into the tyres? (I think it was a Red Bull one)
P.S. I'm downloading pictures now, I'll crop a few and upload them soon :)
The General Lee
11th September 2006, 18:44

I did see it, I'm sure it was the Red Bull one.
Those Red Bull cars gave me a semi, brilliant looking cars imo

Oh, I forgot to mention the fact I was very disappointed by the two "simulation" stands. To see such a nice rig as the Michelin one get wasted running F1 2002 is a shock. And the food prices too! £1.50 for a 500ml bottle of coke! Should have taken a supply with me
Leifde
11th September 2006, 19:04
I know! And £2.00 for a single cone of ice cream without a flake :pillepall
F1 2002 physics are crap, you could go round most corners just by jumping on the kerb and flooring it.
Did you go on the moving sim? It leaned the wrong way :really:
P.S. pics coming soon! I'm cropping them now.
EDIT: Pics :D Most of them aren't very good quality, well the un-editted ones on my computer aren't. PM me if you would like these :)

That plane was huge!
everyone took their eyes off the racing to watch the massive plane fly over lol.
Food was very expensive!
2 quid for a portion of chips...I think not.
Mind you, the pork roll things were nice...at 5 quid a shout :pillepall Someone made a lot of money out of the weekend
Leifde
11th September 2006, 20:46
I was surprised when the 747 flew over, then that big massive thing comes lumbering across the sky (my face - :really:)
If I'd payed for the tickets then I'd moan about the food prices but I didn't so it was probably still cheaper than going somewhere you had to buy a ticket for.
It's weird to think that next year I could be racing at that meeting, I won't be (got nowhere near enough money) but it's still weird :tilt: I'm hoping for FR2.0 by the time I'm 25 :smileypul

JohnUK89
12th September 2006, 15:52
There were a couple of 747's that came over, I think there was one on each day. To see 747's going into such a small airport was a bit of a shock...I thought the place couldn't deal with them, but it ends up it can (well I didn't see any fireball)
I didn't see any Scawen lookalikes there...there might have been one, but not where I was on either day. Not that I was looking, I was too fixated with the racing :)
SamH
12th September 2006, 16:08
I missed the 747 on the second day (though god knows how), but I got a picture or two of the Antonow. Of course, being a bit stupid, I thought it was a C-17 or something like that :D
I put up the rest of the crops that I didn't think came out too bad, on our UKCT drunken fart page (http://www.getpissed.co.uk/thumbnails.php?album=19). The other UKCTers who had cameras with them will probably be adding to the album in the next day or two, as well.

Fun weekend, good racing.
My dad got video of the R26 doing a donut on the startline and also the big FR2.0 Eurocup crash (one ended up rolling down part of Craner Curves)
Very busy, took us a good 3 hours to get home (should only take 1.5 hours). Took about an hour and a bit to get in on Saturday, only about 20 mins on Sunday since we got there early (about 8:30)
JohnUK89
10th September 2007, 09:15
good racing
Please say you're joking there...in one of the FR2.0 races one car managed to punt another one while under safety car, a couple of people in other races had offs during safety car periods and the general standard of racing was worse than that on many public LFS servers. That said, it was a good weekend, just a shame that the "simulator" they had on a competition to win a PSP was Formula 1 on the Playstation O_o
Becky Rose
10th September 2007, 13:47
Sundays racing was, well, I do see better when reviewing CTRA report replays. Many drivers were unable to complete a warm up lap and accidents under safety car are a joke.
I think also motor sports has become too scared of litigation and rolls out the safety car far too readily. I saw accidents which did not warrant a safety car and yet the safety car was deployed.
I also think the organisation sucked, when drivers keep crashing on their warm up laps several times in a row the last thing you do is restart the race with another warm up lap causing huge delays. You either say they've had enough warm up laps or you start them under safety car. We had some very short races which were shortened 1 lap every time they had a warm up lap (so they didnt need to refuel etc).
On the whole there was some great racing, I just thought the standard of both drivers and organisation was sub-public server.
I was entertained and it was a great day out. I wasn't expecting the 3.5's to be quite as loud as they were and wish i'd taken ear plugs!
Oh and the radio sets they gave out so that we could hear the commentary, the vast majority would not tune in to the frequency the commentary was on - which was a bit of a joke. I appreciate they were cheap, but that was taking the biscuit as they had the same problem the previous year.
It was a good day though and a lot of fun to finaly meet some LFS'rs.
Viper93
10th September 2007, 14:30
My wife and I went on Sunday. We left after the big formula cars finished. I was getting tired of seeing crashes on warmup laps and the redflags. Like Becky said you see better races just hopping onto LFS. We had just moved into our house the day before and thought our time would be better spent organizing =)
I wish I could have cought up with you all. I figured Sam couldn't get his phone to work, no biggie, will catch you all next time. I was hoping to get someone elses number before you all went to the track, but nobody was exermely forthcoming with numbers and I didn't press the issue too much.
Leifde
10th September 2007, 15:59
Alright, SOME good racing. There were plenty of moments at the Old Hairpin where it could have all ended badly but they somehow got through cleanly (I didn't watch much at other points), I guess the bad driving does sort of overbalance it when it was like that.
Saturday, IMO, was much better than Sunday. It was less busy (although it was still quite hard to find a spot on the grass in some places) and there weren't as many of the safety car periods. The Megane race was pretty funny with a fair number of the cars running out of fuel before the finish (except for that one guy that got taken out by the weaving leader) :)
I didn't bother trying to get on the simulators, the queue was ridiculous and, after all, I went for the racing. :tilt:
