View Full Version : Join2LFS - (UPDATED 30 Nov 2005)

Join2LFS is a clone of LFSJoin and works the same, but has more features!
By clicking on the "Join" link on LFS World you can directly join the a certain LFS Server.
But my version also works with Opera :)
Key features:
> Joining a LFS server via web links (links like LFS World uses)
> easy installation and uninstallation (one click)
> joining public servers also with a password (good for admins)
> passwords are stored
> you can pass an insim port to lfs
> you can start other applications before lfs
> it supports server names in the new languages (Japanese, Greek, etc...)
> there is an update checker
J2L also supports the handy tool "LFS Launch (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=1307&highlight=lfs+launch)" by "Herki".
So check it out NOW...
Download Join2LFS (http://www.hpr-network.com/counter/getfile.php?id=29)
(current version 1.4.1.1)
Beta Version of Join2LFS 2:
Download Join2LFS 2.0 beta (http://www.hpr-network.com/counter/getfile.php?id=28)
This beta supports special characters. If you encounter some problems please use this. But this version doesn't include all features of the old one!
Beta Version of Join2LFS 2.1:
Download Join2LFS 2.1 beta (http://www.hpr-network.com/counter/getfile.php?id=34)
Some virus scanners seems to find a virus. My scann doesn't. So maybe you can also check that!

Hi Crazy, thx for the app. I'm having a problem with it, though (and I actually had the same prob with the previous LFSjoin): When I click join, LFS starts up fine but then I get the message that "the server is not online anymore"... Any idea what that could be? When I then try to join manually, everything works fine...

maybe i the tool cannot determine the name correctly...
which server was it?
compare the name in the status bar of your browser (or of the server you want to join) with the name displayed in the tool...
if it is different, something went wrong...
please tell me which servernames make problems....

I just quickly tried "ATC Team Public # 1" and I get the above message. There is indeed a difference in the writing. On LFSW there are spaces between Public, # and 1. Within LFS there are none. Is that the problem?

Actually there are no spaces. The exact server name is "^1ATC ^4Team ^7Public#1" or "ATC Team Public #1" if you strip the colour codes. :p
I haven't had a chance to test jois2lfs myself fully because I'm not at home atm.

i noticed that Join2LFS has problems with server names where the character " is in it...
i can't find the error, because there seems to be a difference in getting the parameter via the lfs:// link and setting the parameter directly in borland delphi.
but in my opinion this should be the same result, but in fact it isn't....
so i don't know where the error really is... :(
has someone got an idea?
(see attached pix...i get the wrong parameter...in the black box there is the param how it should be)
/edit:
found the error...when " is in the server name, i get more than one parameter...so i hope now servers with " in their name will work too :)
a new version is online!

so, what's the problem, or better....where is the problem now?
is it a Join2LFS problem, or a lfs world problem or a LFS problem it self?
because, when the name of the server on lfs world is with spaces and the name of the server on the server list in LFS it self is without, the there is aproblem with lfsw.....
so it isn't really a Join2LFS problem :)

tataaaaaa....
another update is finished.
now, in version 1.3.1.1, you can define an InSim port and you can choose applications which should be started before LFS!
now Join2LFS is also usable with LFSLaunch (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=1307) by herik!
if you like to use LFSLaunch you have to activate the checkbox "". therefore LFS will be launch by LFSLaunch, not by Join2LFS.
This also applys to other apps, where you enable this checkbox!!
Of course, Join2LFS can start any application, not only LFSLaunch!
READ THE README FILE!!!

I do sometimes, but only really for stats and the smoke mod now and again. The best thing, for me, is remembering passwords :D

I haven't downloaded an update to this in a while so forgive me if I'm out of date here, but is there a way to stop it loading LFS when it's already loaded?
For instance I might have been playing single player, fancy going online, look at the servers on LFS World, click join... and another instance loads and joins that server.
Or is that not possible to sort out?
tristancliffe
7th November 2005, 17:03
Yeah, I've wondered that too, but I always forget I've wondered it when it's a good time to tell someone, and then remember it again when I end up with two LFSs running.

I like this feature too much! Since I forget always to start Trak-IR. In this way I don't forget any more.
The only think is if I close LFS and restart it via LFSLaunch it start Track-IR again. It's not a big mess since it doesn't open another instance

its possible not to start LFS again, but i don't think it's possible to pass a running LFS instance a server to connect...
hmmm...going to ask the devs :)
but i can stop J2L starting a new instance of LFS if LFS is already running...
so, what do u like...
i think you want, if possible, to join the server in the running instance....

Ideally, yes. If not, some warning that a second instance is going to have to be loaded, so advise the user to close the currently running instance of LFS?

because of the new language support of LFS all JOIN links @ lfsworld are now urlencoded!
i'm working on a new version of Join2LFS to support urlencoded servernames.
but this will be more difficult that i thought, because it seems that Internet Explorer handels urlencoded string different than for example firefox does....
be patient...
an update will follow ;)

like i told you, i still get this "server isn't online anymore" message.
latest version, yesterday, on this server:
lfs://|HighFiDelity+%232|0|S2|/
HighFiDelity #2
It seemed like the blank between the 'y' and the '#' was removed inside lfs.
In the statusbar the '#' is shown as '#' but the links says %232. maybe that helps.
I'm using Firefox 1.5 and joined from the live alert window.

i tested it with IE, FireFox and Opera (but only in the Online Hosts
windows) and the name in LFS seems to be ok.
so maybe there is something with the master server or so...
i attached a screenshot using firefox 1.0.7.
as you can see the name is ok, so joining should be done!
here on work i don't get a connection to the master server through
security reasons, but when i'm at home, i'm going to verify it again!

Make sure you have Join2LFS pointing to the correct folder and make sure you have the very latest version of Join2LFS.
edit - ok i wasn't urlencoding the Live Alert join links. Am now.
CrazyICE
2nd December 2005, 13:06
ok, now it's for sure.
there is no problem with Join2LFS.
I tested it with IE, FireFox and Opera.
I always get the correct server name and could connect to the server!
I tested it with the following two servers:
- HighFiDelity #2 (problem of InCogNito)
- Motodrom gfsclan.de (problem of huxorator)
so if you have problems connecting, please be sure to verify the server name
shown @ lfsworld with the server name sown in LFS.
if those are the same, then the problem is not a Join2LFS issue!
Version of browsers:
IE: 6.0.2900.2180
FF: 1.0.7
Op: 8.51 Built 7712
Notice:
-------
I only tested it with the Online Hosts Browser on LFS World.
NOT in Live Alert of LFSW!!!
^^^ok, victor said it...now it should also work with live alert!

OK, now it is me again. :)
I believe the tool I formerly used (in my last thread) was LFSlaunch or something else rather old. I recently updated to join2lfs 1.4.1.1 and found out that - I still have the same problem.
But solved it now. First, it came to my mind that the protocol handler entry in Firefox needs to be adjustet. This was not the case. The about:config didn't show any lfs entries except the setting for the warning message y/n. But finally I found the lfslaunch executable and a way to uninstall, then reinstalled join2lfs and now, finally, it works with all server names. :)
Thank you very much for the tool and the support.

Hi,
I'd like to use lfs Pitspotter from Kegetys and Lfs2Join together. I configured lfs2join that it would pass it's parameters to pitspotter, but when lfs is open, the server and pass isn't present (lfs stays on intro screen).
Is there a way to send the parameters to lfsspotter, or am i missing something?

aha, well...
I think i know it...
it seems that there is a different url encoding...
my browser (IE) shows this link: "lfs://|www.TEAM-MAR.de%20|%20SHAC|0|S2|/"
FF 2 (windows XP) uses this: "lfs://|www.TEAM-MAR.de+%7C+SHAC|0|S2|/"
so the following things (characters)are different:
| ==> %7C
(space) ==> +
The problem is, that the fixcoded | - characters are also encoded with %7C
The parsing of J2L is depending on the | character!

It appears to be because Firefox encodes the URI, adding a bunch of characters that mess up the link. Could be wrong though. Not that it helps since I don't know how to work around it.

because of the encoding thing:
please send me infos which codes are used for which characters, so i can implement them in the next version.
please also tell me which browser you are using, because some browsers might encode in a different way...
eg.:
%7C ==> |
%23 ==> #

Hello.
I have installed Windows 7 RC1, and I m using LFS Demo which works fine.
I have problem with instalation Join2LFS, which consistantly shows me the message:
"Could not register URL link."
Could someone tell me how to fix the problem?
Thanx :)
Edit: Problem solved :D

I wonder if it'll ever work with Google Chrome? :really: :)It registers lfs:// handle in system, so it isn't dependent on browser.

it might be possible that those are just false positives... some AVs work by checking for certain strings in files... it's rare, but it happens. i've seen some cases where an AV would remove important windows files.

I confirm, scanned with AVG and it's clean... BUT:
Vista 64 + Firefox 3.5.3: Not working. :(
Not a big deal for me as it's only my server... old version run like a charm on my game PC running XP and IE.
I just post the error message to flag the problem.
Cant do the fix of Ripley, LFS and JOIN2LFS doent appear in the list of applications under option menu.
This forum this link:
lfs://|^1Rs^01 ^7Demo|0|S2|/
to
lfs://%7C%5E1Rs%5E01%20%5E7Demo%7C0%7CS2%7C/
It doent look to be firefox that do encoding because on this page http://www.airio.eu/Servers.aspx
property of same link shows:
lfs://|^1Rs^01%20^7Demo|0|S2|/
still under firefox... (Web server/forum does the encoding ?)
mucho problemo ! :really:
Good luck with the encoding CrazyICE. :schwitz::)
FIX FOUND for VISTA !!!
Under Vista: right click on Join2Lfs file, properties , compatibility tab, privilege level option: check to run it as an Administrator.

Which version did you download? The 2.1 beta shouldn't be doing that anymore.

Oh well... not easy under Vista 64.
Had to uninstall version 1.4
Cleanup my registry (regedit)
install 2.1
set it to run as admin
Now it see my link of server Rs1 Demo on this page:
http://www.airio.eu/Servers.aspx
as Rs1%20Demo because of the colors in name.
everything start, but then LFS dont find the server because of the %20 in the name.
Same problem on this forum with totaly different encoding due to forum, still get %20 in the name.
So ^01 ^7 result in %20 and result as an unknown server.
Have fun. :)
Added:
Pffffff !!!
Guess what, it work with iExplo and Vista (who see it with %20) but not work with Firefox wich shown it WITHOUT the %20 but then add it when join2LFS start.
So if the browser shos the %20 in status bar it work, if not it dont.
Vista64 + Firefox combo is really hard to make join2LFS work. I guess in all other cases it work fine.
Enough for today...

good news...
from patch Z26 up lfs join links will be handled by lfs itself...
so, join2lfs will get gratuitous.
so, if you encounter some problems with the lfs:// links uding join2lfs just update to patch Z26!
